Zootopia 2 Set To Explode At The China Box Office: Poised To Become Biggest Hollywood Grosser Post-Pandemic

Mumbai, November 22 - Disney's highly-awaited animated buddy cop comedy film Zootopia 2 is off to a phenomenal start in China, scoring one of the biggest pre-sales for a Hollywood release. The advance bookings of the movie have surpassed all previous Hollywood animated releases in the country.

According to reports, Zootopia 2 pre-sales are the strongest for a Hollywood title in China in the post-pandemic era, and overall, are behind only the last two Avengers movies. The response reflects China's enduring love for the original Zootopia, which remains a cultural favourite nearly a decade after its release.

As per the analyst, the film is on track to score $200+ million over its 5-day opening weekend in the country, with independent Chinese trackers projecting it to gross over $300 million over its lifetime run. Given the pre-sales trend and box office projection, Zootopia 2 is set to become the highest-grossing Hollywood movie in China, beating Avatar: The Way of Water ($247 million) in the post-COVID era.

The sequel's popularity is also being fuelled by China's booming animation market, where audiences have been gravitating towards well-known IPs and emotionally familiar characters. In the movie, Rookie cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are sent on a make-or-break mission by Chief Bogo that has them coming face-to-face with mysterious pit viper Gary De'Snake, whose arrival disrupts the balance of the metropolis. To solve the case while contending with the Zootopia Police Department and other parties, they must go undercover in new parts of town, testing their partnership while dealing with a conspiracy regarding the other reptiles near Zootopia. It will be released on November 25 in China.
