Warner Bros. India Announces Release Date Of Will Smith-Fronted Biographical Drama 'King Richard'

Mumbai, January 17 - Warner Bros. India has announced the release date of the biographical drama film, "King Richard", starring Golden Globe award-winner Will Smith in the title role. It was theatrically released on November 19, 2021, by Warner Bros. Pictures and on the HBO Max streaming service on the same day in North America.

The movie, which follows the life of Richard Williams (played by Will Smith), the father, and coach of famed tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, will be released in Indian cinemas on March 25, 2022. It is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin.

In North America, the movie has had a dismal show at the box office, grossing just $27.6 million in the budget of $50 million. The film, however, received critical acclaim with praise for the performances of Smith, Aunjanue Ellis, and Saniyya Sidney.

"King Richard" was named one of the best films of 2021 by the American Film Institute, and earned six nominations at the 27th Critics' Choice Awards (including Best Picture). It also received four nominations, winning Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for Will Smith, in the recently concluded 79th Golden Globe awards.
