WWE Monday Night Raw, August 14, 2023: Live Coverage

Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, and Dominik Mysterio head to the ring.

Rhea welcomes everyone to Raw, where THE Judgment Day reigns. She says things haven't been going well recently. Priest adds that at SummerSlam, Finn should've become the World Champion. He also mentions their match last week, stating they should've won. Communication's been an issue, but as Senor Money in the Bank, he'll be in control. They'll decide what happens. Tonight, Finn will handle Cody Rhodes, as he's dominant. Finn should be here saying this. They won't break up, but Finn should show up.

Rhea tries to stop Priest, but he insists there are problems with THE Judgment Day. Where's Finn Balor?

JD McDonagh's music plays, and he walks to the ring.

Priest notes JD has something to say, but warns him to be careful.

JD says he doesn't want to insult the strongest WWE faction. He asks to enter the ring and shares a message from Finn. Finn says they shouldn't worry about his friendship but about Cody and Sami.

Rhea refuses to take orders from JD, not part of THE Judgment Day.

Dom tells JD they have it handled. Priest is a future World Champion, and Dom is the North American Champion. Dom just realized Canada is part of North America, so he's champ here. He tells JD to leave, so they can deal with things.

JD insists he was just passing on a message.

Rhea says they've got a message for Finn. They need to talk.

Sami Zayn interrupts.

Sami and JD exchange punches in the aisle. Sami punches JD against the apron. JD tries to get in the ring, but THE Judgment Day does nothing. Sami continues punching JD. Sami gets on the apron, then returns to the floor, preventing JD from entering the ring.

JD pulls Sami's arm into the ring post. JD sends Sami shoulder-first into the ring post as THE Judgment Day walks away.

We go to a commercial break.

Singles Match: Sami Zayn Vs JD McDonagh

Sami throws punches, then heads to the turnbuckles, landing an elbow on the head. He follows with a punch, Irish whip, and a back body drop. Chasing JD around the ring, Sami delivers a monkey flip upon their return to the ring. JD strikes Sami's elbow, and the referee checks on him. JD kicks the arm and applies a wrist lock. He leaps over the top rope to the floor, dropping Sami's arm on the top rope. JD takes off the tape on the elbow, hyper-extending it, and slams it onto the mat. Sami counters with chops and punches, sending JD over the top rope. Sami follows to the floor, hitting a clothesline.

JD continues working on Sami's arm, going over the ringside barrier and dropping the arm on it. JD delivers a knee drop to the arm on the announce table.

We return from commercial, and Sami is on the turnbuckles, connecting with forearms. He headbutts JD off the turnbuckles and comes off with a dropkick, getting a near fall. Sami leaps over JD, hitting a clothesline, followed by a Michinoku Driver for another near fall. JD fights back with elbows and a Spanish Fly for a close count. JD applies a crossface, and Sami reaches the ropes for a break. JD targets the shoulder with kicks, but Sami responds with an exploder into the turnbuckles.

Finn Balor walks down the aisle.

Finn charges towards the ring but stops before reaching the apron.

JD rolls Sami up for a near fall, using a headbutt. He heads to the turnbuckles for a moonsault, but Sami gets his boots up. Sami knocks Finn off the apron and hits JD with a Helluva Kick for the three count.

WINNER:Sami Zayn

Sami exits the ring before Finn can approach.

Adam Pearce meets with Chelsea Green.

Adam reminds Chelsea that Sonya is injured and absent. He reluctantly acknowledges that...

Chelsea cuts Adam off, calling him predictable and stating she won't give up. She says she'll call her manager, or maybe Human Resources.

Adam asks for Chelsea's idea.

Chelsea proposes holding auditions for her tag team partner, followed by defending the titles.

Katana Chance and Kayden Carter enter, suggesting that as soon as Chelsea finds a new partner...

Piper Niven attacks Kayden and Katana and declares herself Chelsea's new partner.

Chelsea mentions she was planning auditions, but...

Piper asserts that she's the new partner, and they leave the office.

Imperium makes their entrance to the ring.

After the commercial break, Byron Saxton interviews Cody Rhodes.

Byron asks Cody about his upcoming match against Finn Balor and whether he views Finn as unpredictable.

Cody admires Finn, highlighting his leadership in various places. He acknowledges THE Judgment Day's quest for supremacy, mentioning Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, and Dom as part of the group. He talks about Dom's submissive but champion role. Cody claims readiness for Finn Balor, noting he hasn't wrestled in Winnipeg for years.

Gunther is on the announce table, while Vinci and Kaiser stand beside it.

Gunther addresses his journey to becoming the greatest Intercontinental Champion. He's now in Winnipeg, appreciating his visits to Canada as a European. Gunther takes a jab at Winnipeg, then focuses on Chad Gable as the next Number One Contender. Gunther respects Chad's victory but asserts his own accomplishments. He dismisses Chad as a threat.

Chad Gable, with Otis and Maxxine, interrupts.

Chad recalls their recent encounter and his win, stating Gunther is now on the clock. He's determined to challenge for the Intercontinental Championship. Tonight, he's facing Giovanni.

Chad invites Giovanni into the ring for a lesson. Kaiser intervenes, rejecting the offer. He praises Giovanni as part of WWE's elite and predicts Giovanni will embarrass Chad, as he did Chad's friend last week. Kaiser extends a hand to Maxxine, offering "European elegance" and implying Chad's Alpha Academy is a sinking ship.

Maxxine slaps Kaiser.

Commercial break follows.

Giovanni Vinci (with Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther) Vs Chad Gable (with Otis and Maxxine Dupri)

They tie up, and Vinci backs Gable into a corner before giving him a push. They grapple again, with Vinci applying a side headlock and delivering a shoulder tackle. Vinci secures a wrist lock. Gable manages to escape and executes a drop toe hold into an armbar. Vinci responds with a slam. He follows up with forearms to Gable's back and a chop. Vinci executes a belly-to-back suplex for a close count. Gable fights back with chops, but Vinci whips him into the turnbuckles, causing him to hit sternum-first. Vinci follows with a Northern Lariat for another near fall. He performs a backbreaker for yet another near fall.

Vinci delivers punches and kicks, and Gable fires back with punches of his own. Vinci lands a chop, and Gable goes down. Vinci places Gable on the turnbuckles, but Gable manages an arm bar through the ropes. Vinci attempts to lift Gable onto his shoulders, but Gable escapes. Vinci avoids a German suplex and Chaos Theory, yet Gable ultimately lands a German suplex, with Vinci landing on his chest.

Vinci retaliates with chops. He misses a chop, and Gable answers with forearms and knees. Gable executes a running neckbreaker, then attempts a moonsault but lands on his feet. Vinci counters with a Finlay Slam and follows up with a moonsault for a close count. Vinci goes for a powerbomb, but Gable lands on his feet and nails Vinci with Chaos Theory for the three count.

WINNER: Chad Gable
Gunther (with Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci) Vs Otis (with Chad Gable and Maxxine Dupri) in a Non Title Match

Otis playfully jiggles before engaging with Gunther. They lock up, and Gunther forces Otis into the corner. Gunther taunts Otis with a pie face and some words. Otis shoves Gunther in response. Gunther lands a chop, followed by a kick that leads to Otis' characteristic jiggle. Gunther applies a side headlock and delivers a shoulder tackle. Otis rebounds off the ropes and rolls like a barrel. Gunther kicks Otis in the head and follows up with more kicks. Otis retaliates with chops, and Gunther chops back. Gunther lands punches, and Otis responds with an Irish whip and a clothesline. However, Gunther remains on his feet. Otis misses a forearm, and Gunther counters with an elbow to the nose, followed by another elbow. While Chad argues with Otis, Gunther chokes him.

Gunther follows with a boot to the head and consecutive chops. Otis shimmies, then strikes Gunther with windmill-like forearms. Gunther boots Otis, and Otis answers with a back fist. Gunther delivers a shoulder and clothesline, yet Otis stays upright. They exchange shoulder tackles back and forth. Otis executes a fallaway slam on Gunther, and then proceeds to remove his shirt for the Caterpillar. However, Gunther counters with a boot, followed by a second boot to the head. Gunther finishes with a powerbomb, leading to the three count.

WINNER: Gunther

After the match, Gable enters the ring and delivers a German suplex to Gunther.

Damian comments that Finn seems to prioritize his friend over family.

Rhea interrupts, telling them to quiet down, asserting that everyone wants to witness their downfall. She emphasizes that no one is afraid of them and points out their declining killer instinct.

JD McDonagh arrives, and Priest tells him to leave.

Finn mentions he'll talk to JD later, adding that they need to make things right. He predicts Cody won't know what's coming tonight.

Priest asserts it's time to address Judgment Day business.

The scene transitions to a commercial break.

Returning from the break, a recap is shown of recent events involving members of The Bloodline on Smackdown.

Michael and Wade discuss Jey Uso's status, mentioning he's been moved to the Alumni page.

Jackie Redmond interviews Drew McIntyre earlier in the day. She inquires about his next steps.

Before Drew can respond, Matt Riddle approaches him.

Riddle comments on the value of having a "bro" to enhance one's abilities. He shares that he's searching for a new tag team partner and highlights the Viking Raiders' open challenge. Riddle asks Drew if he's interested in being his partner.

Drew pauses Riddle and says that if Riddle can't find a partner, he'll consider the offer.

Riddle expresses optimism, saying there's a chance, as Drew walks away.

The focus returns to Indi Hartwell, who reflects on her journey to self-discovery. She mentions that doubt can be more damaging than failure and asserts her purpose is to achieve greatness. Indi emphasizes her dedication, having traveled from Australia for this moment, right here and right now.

Erik and Ivar (with Valhalla) Vs Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre

Before the referee can signal the start of the match, Drew McIntyre steps in to join Riddle as his partner.

Ivar and Riddle begin, with Riddle unleashing strikes, but Ivar responds with a shoulder tackle. Ivar hurls Riddle into the turnbuckles, and Erik tags in, delivering a series of kicks. Erik follows with a couple of forearms, then sends Riddle into the corner. Riddle counters with forearms to Erik and Ivar, and a kick to Erik, followed by a Pele Kick. Riddle hits running forearms on Erik, followed by an exploder. Ivar tags in, and Riddle lands a knee to send Ivar to the floor. Riddle attempts a running kick to Erik, but Erik blocks it, tripping Riddle on the apron and feeding him to Ivar, who delivers a seated splash on the floor.

The action continues after a commercial break.

Back from the break, Riddle delivers punches, attempting to make the tag, but Erik intervenes. Ivar tags in, connecting with lawnmower elbows in the corner and getting a near fall. Erik tags back in, and they execute forearms, with Erik delivering a knee to the head for another near fall. Riddle manages to suplex Erik, leaving both men down. Ivar and Drew tag in. Drew hits shoulder tackles and clotheslines, followed by an overhead belly-to-belly suplex to Erik. He delivers neck breakers to Ivar and Erik. Drew lands a kick to Ivar, but Ivar halts a Future Shock attempt, pushing Drew into the corner. Drew counters with an elbow, while Ivar responds with a midsection knee. Drew executes a Michinoku Driver for a near fall.

Ivar hits a back elbow, and Erik tags in. Drew clotheslines Ivar over the top rope and brings Erik into the ring. Drew sets up for the Claymore, but Ivar gets on the apron to obstruct him. Erik utilizes a knee. Riddle and Ivar tag in. Erik and Ivar execute a springboard clothesline and wheelbarrow suplex combo for a near fall. Erik tags in once again, Riddle lands a knee on him, then escapes from Ivar. Drew tags in, delivering a headbutt to Ivar. Erik performs an exploder on Drew. Riddle executes a head scissors, sending Erik over the top rope. Riddle performs a twisting Asai Moonsault on Ivar. Erik strikes Riddle from behind, and Drew finishes with a Claymore for the three count.

WINNER: Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle
Rhea Ripley (with Dominik Mysterio) Vs Indi Hartwell (with Candice LeRae)

As the bell rings to kick off the match, Rhea delivers a forearm to Indi. Rhea proceeds to toss Indi to the mat by her hair multiple times. Punches from Rhea follow. Rhea strikes Indi in the corner with a punch, and then executes an Irish whip. Rhea charges into the corner with a running shoulder. She continues with chops in the corner. Rhea performs another Irish whip, but Indi manages to evade Rhea's charge into the corner.

Unfortunately for Rhea, she collides with the ring post. Indi capitalizes with forearms and punches. Indi executes a spinebuster, resulting in a near fall. An uppercut from Indi causes Rhea to go to the outside. Indi follows Rhea, managing to hoist her onto her shoulders. However, Rhea regains her footing and sends Indi into the ring post. Rhea then picks up Indi and slams her into the ring post.

Rhea slides Indi back into the ring before returning to the floor and delivering a forceful running forearm to Candice. Indi attempts an inside cradle, earning a close near fall. Rhea responds with a headbutt and follows up with RipTide to secure the three-count victory.

WINNER: Rhea Ripley
Shinsuke Nakamura/Seth Rollins segment

In the ring, Cole conducted an interview with Nakamura, who was dressed in an all-black suit. Cole pointed out Nakamura's long history with Seth Rollins and questioned the reason behind his attack on Rollins the previous week.

Initially responding in Japanese, Nakamura eventually stated, "I want the world title." Cole probed further, asking about the head kick to Rollins. Nakamura again replied in Japanese before emphasizing, "I win the world title."

Interrupting the conversation, Rollins made his entrance, clad in an all-white outfit with lace and sporting glasses, creating a striking contrast to Nakamura's attire. Rollins found Nakamura's attack puzzling, considering he could have simply asked for a title shot instead of resorting to such actions.

Rollins referred to himself as a fighting champion who once held great respect for Nakamura until last week's incident. He emphasized that if Nakamura wanted a title shot, he could have approached him directly. Rollins downplayed the "why" behind Nakamura's actions and focused on the "how" he could exact revenge.

Rollins granted Nakamura's wish for a title match, highlighting that in order for Rollins to achieve his own desires, he would make Nakamura's wish come true as well. He announced the title match, leaving Nakamura pleased. Rollins proposed Nakamura name the time and place, so he could defeat him. To solidify the agreement, Rollins extended his hand for a shake.

Nakamura shook Rollins' hand before whispering something into his ear, visibly surprising Rollins. As Rollins looked around in confusion, Nakamura swiftly delivered a Kinshasa, flooring Rollins.

Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch

Stratus delivered a headbutt to Lynch using her facemask, but Lynch managed to fight back and execute an exploder. During the encounter, Stratus' facemask came off, prompting a brief pause as the referee allowed her to put it back on. Stratus then attempted a handstand headscissors takedown, though she stumbled and had to make another attempt.

At one point, Stratus removed her mask and tried to employ it as a weapon. However, Lynch snatched it away from her. As the referee was engaged in handling the mask, Stratus capitalized and knocked Lynch down.

Following a commercial break, Lynch mounted a comeback with strikes and a leg drop for a near fall. Stratus rallied with a spear, also resulting in a two-count. Stratus then aimed for a tornado DDT, but Lynch countered and executed a superplex for another near fall.

In an unexpected turn, Stratus attempted to flee into the crowd, prompting Lynch to pursue her. Suddenly, the bell rang, and the match was abruptly declared over as the referee signaled for a double countout.

WINNER: ended in a double countout

The action continued outside the ring, with Lynch and Stratus battling their way up the stairs and into the concourse area, where fans were conveniently separated from the fray.

The altercation persisted near a merchandise table until Zoey Stark, concealed by a hood, intervened by attacking Lynch. Seizing the opportunity, Stratus delivered a Chick Kick that left Lynch incapacitated.

Gunther expressed his frustration to Vinci and Kaiser, calling the situation tonight a total embarrassment. Gunther was unsure about what to do with Vinci, who had been letting him down since they arrived at Raw. Additionally, Kaiser wasn't fulfilling his responsibilities because he was too focused on a girl.

Kaiser apologized and offered to talk to Pearce to resolve the issue, but Gunther declined the offer. Gunther stated that he would handle the matter himself, as he usually does. He also mentioned that he's going to defend the IC title against Gable next week.

Pearce confronted Stratus and Stark backstage, clearly angry. He informed them that Stratus and Lynch would have a rematch in a steel cage.

Cody Rhodes Vs Finn Bálor

With Rhodes on the outside of the ring, Dom rushed down in a comically exaggerated manner, aiming to attack, but Rhodes kicked him away. This distraction allowed Bálor to execute a baseball slide and gain control before a break.

Even after the break, Dom and Ripley were still lingering at ringside, even though Dom was clearly trying to interfere right in front of the referee.

Rhodes countered with a powerslam and Disaster Kick for a two-count. Priest then made his way down to the ring as Bálor used a slingblade and headlock elbow drop on Rhodes for another two-count. Rhodes managed to evade a Coup de Grace and delivered a Cody Cutter.

While the referee's attention was diverted, Priest tripped Rhodes, but Rhodes fought him off and took out both Priest and Bálor with a dive. As Ripley distracted the referee, Dom crotched Rhodes on the top rope. Bálor followed up with a superplex that resulted in a near fall.

Dom slid a chair into the ring, but the referee intervened and removed it. With the ref once again distracted by Ripley, Priest slid a briefcase into the ring, which slipped right under Bálor's hands and ended up in Rhodes' possession.

Taking advantage of the situation, Rhodes used the briefcase (with the ref's back turned), knocked down Priest, and then hit Bálor with his Cross Rhodes finisher for the pinfall victory.

WINNER: Cody Rhodes

After the match, Dom and Bálor launched an attack on Rhodes. However, Zayn rushed in wielding a chair to rescue Rhodes. Zayn managed to fend off Priest, but McDonagh caught him off guard from behind. The members of Judgment Day teamed up to beat down both Zayn and Rhodes, while McDonagh observed from the sidelines. Bálor executed a Coup de Grace on Rhodes inside the ring and delivered another one to Zayn outside the ring.

They then cleared a table, and Priest powerbombed Zayn through it using his Razor's Edge move. Bálor followed up by hitting Rhodes with yet another Coup de Grace.

With their collective mission accomplished, Judgment Day shared an embrace and stood tall together as the show came to an end.
