Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files' Has Been Declared Tax-Free In 9 Indian States

Mumbai, March 16 - Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's "The Kashmir Files" is turning into a massive blockbuster at the box office. The film, which was released on March 11, has been putting some insane numbers at the box office, surpassing all the low trade expectations.

Meanwhile, the state governments of India are making sure that the makers of the film get the best return for their investment in the film. In this process, as many as 9 states have declared the film tax-free.



Haryana was the first state to make such an announcement. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday watched the movie in a theatre in Panchkula along with Haryana assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta. "The Kashmir Files is a living and touching depiction of the human tragedy that took place in the Kashmir Valley in 1990", Khattar tweeted in Hindi on Sunday evening after watching the movie and declared it tax-free.

After Haryana, the other Indian states, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Goa, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Himanchal Pradesh, have also made the film tax-free. A few more states might also join the aforementioned states in making the film tax-free.

Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri in association with Abhishek Agarwal Arts, and Zee Studio, "The Kashmir Files" is based on the true events of the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the early 1990s due to the Kashmir Insurgency.

It stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, Darshan Kumar, Prakash Belawadi, Mrinal Kulkarni, and Chinmay Mandlekar in key roles.
