Vijay Sethupathi & Trisha's Tamil Blockbuster '96' To Get A Hindi Remake

Mumbai, September 20, 2021: After Kannada and Telugu remakes, Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan starrer romantic drama film "96" is all set to be remade in Hindi as well. Producer Ajay Kapoor, who recently announced a film on the Afghan rescue crisis, has acquired the Hindi remake rights of this Tamil blockbuster.

Speaking about the film, Ajay Kapoor said (according to TV9), "96 was a heartwarming, light-hearted romantic tale that got a lot of love from the audience. The story breaks barriers beyond the boundaries of language and region, which inspired me to make the Hindi remake of the film for a national audience".



The producer further said that he is working on the script and will soon announce the cast & crew for the Hindi remake.

"I am actively working on developing the right script for the story with the right kind of director and star cast. Once we finalize all these things, I would like to make an official announcement of the cast and team soon", he added.

The story of the film revolves around two high school sweethearts from the batch of 1996 who meet at a reunion, 22 years after they parted. It is an emotional rollercoaster ride that won several accolades in Tamil. At the 2018 Filmfare Awards South, the film won five awards, including Best Actor and Best Actress. It also did well at the box office and emerged as a blockbuster.

Meanwhile, "96" (2018) has already been remade in Kannada as "99" (2019) starring Ganesh, and Bhavana and in Telugu as "Jaanu" (2020) with Sharwanand, and Samantha Akkineni in the lead roles. The Telugu remake of the film is also available in Hindi with the dubbed version.
