Sony's 'Venom 2' Fares Very Well At The Indian Box Office In The Opening Weekend; Nears $300M Worldwide

Mumbai, October 18 - Sony Pictures' superhero film "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" has had a reasonably good first extended weekend at the Indian box office. The Tom Hardy starrer performed much better than some of the regional movies and earned Rs. 15.50 crores gross in all languages (Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu).
Directed by Andy Serkis, "Venom 2" opened with Rs. 3.48 crore gross on Thursday and maintained the pace throughout the rest of the weekend with Rs. 3.77 crores on Friday, Rs. 3.45 crores on Saturday, and Rs. 3.50 crores on Sunday at the box office. The collection is without the biggest movie market in India, Maharashtra.
"Venom 2" will debut in Maharashtra theaters on October 22 upon the reopening of cinemas in the state after almost 7 months in English and Hindi. The movie is expected to witness the jump after opening in Maharashtra including the economic capital city of India, Mumbai.
On the worldwide front, "Venom 2" is nearing a $300 million hauls. The movie has had a brilliant run at the international box office in the past weekend and brought in $62.30 million, taking its total worldwide gross to $283.7 million, including $168 million at the North America box office.
"Venom: Let There Be Carnage" expanded to 44 international markets over past the weekend, including such major markets as Italy, Spain, South Korea, and India. The coming days will see the "Venom" sequel opens in France and Germany, with Australia on tap for November and an opening in Japan planned for December.
The second film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), "Venom 2" stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock / Venom alongside Woody Harrelson as Carnage, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, and Stephen Graham in top roles.
