Shantanu Maheshwari To Star Opposite Alia Bhatt In Gangubai Kathiawadi

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has introduced Shantanu Maheshwari who will be seen opposite Alia Bhatt in the biographical crime film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'. Shantanu Maheshwari who is a well-trained dancer from Kolkata will make his major motion picture debut with this film.





According to the sources, Sanjay Leela Bhansali saw Shantanu on a reality show and immediately saw star potential in him. Later Shantanu was called by Bhansali's office and offered him the movie to which he obviously did not deny.





Shantanu debuted in a dance show called Dil Dosti Dance which aired on Channel V as the protagonist Swayam Shekhawat. He is also a part of the Desi Hoppers dance crew who emerged as winners in the World of Dance 2015 Championship in Los Angeles.





Apart from being a professional dancer, the 29-year-old is also the winner of Season 8 of Colors TV's reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi hosted by Rohit Shetty. Maheshwari also featured in Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 9.





Talking about the movie Gangubai Kathiawadi, it is based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi's book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai' about Gangubai Kothewali, the madam of a brothel. Alia Bhatt plays the role of Gangubai Kathiawadi. The movie is produced by Bhansali Productions and Pen Media Limited.





Along with Alia and Shantanu, the movie also features Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Vijay Raaz, and Seema Pahwa in important roles. About the release, it was scheduled for release on 11 September 2020 but postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
