SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu's Varanasi Set to Be One of India's Costliest Films: Budget Revealed
Hyderabad, November 18 - SS Rajamouli took social media by storm with the first look teaser/trailer launch of his next directorial Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, last month. The maverick filmmaker aims to push the boundaries with this action-adventure, set in multiple timelines.
The nearly 4-minute-long teaser/trailer has become a talk of the town as the visual of it has left everyone awestruck. The VFX quality and the vision of Rajamouli hinted that Varanasi is carrying a massive budget, and the recent reports confirmed the same.
Earlier, it was reported that Varanasi was being made on a budget of over 1000 crores, and as per Bollywood Hungama, the film will be made on a historic budget of Rs. 1300 crores, excluding the amount kept aside for print and publicity. This is believed to be a reasonable budget given the mammoth vision Rajamouli has for the spectacle.
While not officially confirmed yet, Varanasi is among the top two biggest budgeted Indian films, after the upcoming Ramayana, which is reportedly being made on a budget of around 4000 crores (both parts). It is needless to say that both films will need to become the more than the highest-grossing Indian films to break even.
The recently held mega event to launch the film in Hyderabad was the biggest ever, as the makers reportedly spent over 20 crores for the same. A report suggested that the maverick filmmaker has planned to invest 200 crores in marketing the film, which will take its total budget to over 1500 crores.
Produced by Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business, Varanasi is scheduled to release in 2027.
