Salt Lake City, September 19, 2023 - Another week, and WWE delivered yet another impressive show. This week's Monday Night edition emanated from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, UT, and featured a lineup packed with star power.
However, there were some changes made to the show due to certain wrestlers being absent. The main event showcased Jey Uso facing off against Drew McIntyre, and with The Judgment Day lurking at ringside, the main event became even more captivating.
I expected a straightforward victory, but as often happens on the show, things didn't go as planned. Drew managed to defeat Jey, and Cody was seen assisting Jey after an attack by Judgment Day.
Additionally, on the show, Becky Lynch issued an open challenge for the NXT Women's Title, which was accepted by Natalya. Unfortunately for Natalya, she ended up losing the match. Shinsuke Nakamura completely dominated Seth "Freakin" Rollins, and there were plenty of other exciting moments throughout the event.
Let's check out the top 5 highlights below;
#1. Drew McIntyre defeated Jey Uso
The highlight of the night was Drew McIntyre vs. Jey Uso. With the two top stars wrestling, The Judgment Day sauntered their way down to ringside, appearing to cheer on Uso. Jey was seen planting The Judgment Day with Superkicks after they forced him to give the answer. This allowed Drew to recover and hit a huge Claymore to earn the victory.
#2. Cody Rhodes Saves Jey Uso From The Judgement Day
After the match, The Judgment Day got into the ring and unleashed a beatdown on Jey Uso. Drew McIntyre looked back but didn't come out to help. The music hit, and it was... Cody Rhodes who came out to aid Jey Uso. Cody worked it out better and cleaned the house.
#3. Cody Rhodes defeated Dominik Mysterio
The match of the night started with Cody Rhodes taking on Dominik. Cody Rhodes went for a Figure Four lock, and Dominik found himself in deep trouble at that moment. However, Dominik managed to save himself and sent Cody to the apron. Balor was outside, and he knocked Cody down. Dominik attempted the three amigos, but Cody evaded and went for a Cody Cutter. Cody successfully executed another Cross Rhodes for the cover and won the match.
#4. Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Ricochet via Disqualification/ Seth Rollins Gets Invovled
Rollins indeed left a sign that Nakamura would get a sneak attack when World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins tried to attack Nakamura before the match event started. Ricochet proved to be a match for Nakamura, lighting up Salt Lake City with aerial dives. The match ended up with a DQ with Ricochet attacking Nakamura with a chair.
After the match, Rollins attacked Nakamura, but it was Nakamura who injured Seth “Freakin’ Rollins’ back.
#5. Becky Lynch defeated Natalya to retain the NXT Women’s Title
The bell rang, and Natalya began unloading punches on Becky. Becky was sent into the ring post and then to the floor. We went into a commercial break.
Back from the break, Becky tackled Natalya to the mat. She attempted a back exploder for the cover, but Natalya kicked out. Becky then tried a Manhandle slam, but Natalya caught her from behind and went for a German Suplex. They found themselves on the top turnbuckle, and Natalya executed a Superplex, causing Becky to land hard on the mat. Natalya went for the cover, but it wasn't enough for the win. She then attempted the Sharpshooter but sent Becky into the post.
Becky responded with a baseball slide that sent Natalya out of the ring and onto the floor. They got back into the ring, and Becky climbed to the top rope for a splash, but Natalya rolled out of the way, and Becky landed on her feet. There was a lot of scrambling, and both women attempted multiple inside cradles, with Becky ultimately getting the last laugh.
