OMG 2 Advance Booking Status and Opening Day Box Office Expectations

Mumbai, August 9 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is coming to the big screen with the sequel to his superhit movie "OMG" (2012), also starring Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. Directed by Amit Rai, "OMG 2" has been in the news for the last few days regarding its censorship which has been the talk of the talk.

"OMG 2" deals with a very sensitive issue of sex education and the religious angle in it has kept the censor board busy. After closely reviving the movie, "OMG 2" managed to get done with censorship formalities with some changes and has been censored with an "A" certificate (adult only) with the approved run-time of 2 hours 36 minutes.



The movie is expected to release on over 1500 screens nationwide, mainly due to the hugely hyped "Gadar 2" which is releasing on the same day (August 11). The "Gadar 2" juggernaut is clearly affecting the advance booking of the Akshay Kumar-starrer, which, however, still manages to put up decent pre-sales.

Even though the hype of OMG 2 gets reduced due to Gadar 2, the pre-booking of the movie is much better than Akshay Kumar's last release "Selfiee". As of 5 AM on August 11, "OMG 2" has sold approx. 113K tickets worth 3.3 crores gross for the opening day. In three national chains (PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis), the film has sold approx. 70K tickets.

The final pre-sales of the movie is expected to finish over 100K tickets overall, including around 70K tickets in PIC. It will mainly target multiple audiences and has less scope to score in smaller centres due to "Gadar 2".



The advance booking trend of OMG 2 indicates the opening of at least 8 crores net and has a good shot at hitting the double-digit mark if the talks are positive. If it opens in the expected lines, it will be a decent start considering the scenario around it. The positive word of mouth could significantly boost its chances over the Independence Day week.

The movie is the sequel to a hugely successful film, be it critically or commercially and this is one of the biggest pluses it is currently having. Despite lagging behind the Sunny Deol-led movie, OMG 2 has its audience which is expected to turn in over the weekend, and as said, if it manages to get positive WOM, things can change drastically in its favour which the makers will be hoping for.
