Los Angeles, February 6 - Hollywood filmmaker, Roland Emmerich joins many other actors and filmmakers who believe that the lack of originality in superhero and Star Wars films is ruining the industry.

The director, whose latest big-budget science fiction disaster film "Moonfall" opened poorly at the box office, has lambasted the state of the movie business because these types (superhero) of movies exist.

While talking about his newest disaster film, he mentions in a conversation with Den of Geek, "Because naturally, Marvel and DC Comics and Star Wars have pretty much taken over. It's ruining our industry a little bit because nobody does anything original anymore".

Emmerich claims to be all about originality and believes that Christopher Nolan is making bold choices when it comes to filmmaking. "You should make bold new movies, you know? And I think, actually, Christopher Nolan is the master of that. He is someone who can make movies about whatever he wants", he said.

Meanwhile, Emmerich's latest venture, "Moonfall", which was shot in Montreal on a $145 million production budget, opened to poor reviews with 40 percent on Rotten tomatoes while its CinemaScore is also weak C+. At the box office, it opened to nearly $3.5 million on Friday, which is poor for a big-budget film.

Stay tuned...
