Mumbai, December 20 - The sun hasn't set on the 6th installment of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, featuring Margot Robbie in the lead. The actress recently said that Disney might not have plans to go ahead with the movie and she lost hope in the film's development.
Now, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that the movie is on and will definitely see the light of day. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer, one of the most successful film producers, said that they have two "Pirates" scripts, one with Robbie and the other one with a younger cast.
"I think we're getting very close on that one, too. We have a very good script. We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully, we'll get both of them", the "Top Gun" producer said when asked why the 6th Pirates movie has been tough to crack?
When asked about Margot Robbie's claim of the scrapping of "Pirates 6", Bruckheimer said, "It's alive for me. It's alive for Disney. I'm sure she was disappointed it didn't go first — or maybe not because she's very busy, so it might be a blessing to push this a bit. We believe we'll get it made. It's a very strong story".
Johnny Depp has been a vital part of the "Pirates" franchise but his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard brought differences between him and Disney. Now, since the million-dollar lawsuit has settled with a verdict coming in the favor of Depp, there have been rumors about Depp's return to the franchise.
Bruckheimer said that it is up to Disney to approach Depp again but "I would love to have him in the movie. He's a friend, a terrific actor and it's unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do", he said.
