Kangana Ranaut Slams AR Rahman, Calls Him Prejudiced and Hateful Amid Fresh Controversy
Mumbai, January 17 - Actress Kangana Ranaut has launched a sharp attack on legendary composer A. R. Rahman, accusing him of being "prejudiced and hateful" following his recent remarks about divisive cinema and the Hindi film industry. Kangana's comments have sparked a heated debate across social media and within film circles.
Reacting strongly, Kangana claimed she had never come across a person more biased in the industry. In a social media post, she alleged that Rahman's statements reflected personal prejudice rather than artistic concern. She further accused the Oscar-winning composer of selectively labelling films as "divisive" based on ideology rather than content.
Kangana also revisited her past experience with Rahman during the making of her political drama Emergency. She revealed that Rahman had refused to even meet her to hear the narration, with sources allegedly telling her that the composer did not want to associate with what he believed was a "propaganda film". Kangana said this refusal deeply disappointed her and reinforced her belief that bias exists within the industry.
The controversy erupted after Rahman described the historical film Chhaava as "divisive", a remark that triggered backlash from multiple quarters. Kangana's reaction has since intensified the conversation around creative freedom, ideological labelling, and political bias in Bollywood. As of now, A. R. Rahman has not responded directly to Kangana's allegations.
