Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Gears Up For MMA Biopic 'The Smashing Machine'

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is stepping back into the fighting world, not just on screen, but literally. Titled "The Smashing Machine," the film chronicles the life of legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr.

According to PWInsider, Johnson will portray Kerr, while directorial duties fall under Benny Safdie. Production begins May 1st, 2024, and concludes on August 1st, spanning locations like Los Angeles, New Mexico, Tokyo, and Vancouver.



The movie draws inspiration from a 2002 HBO documentary on Kerr's life, promising a detailed look at his career. Academy Award nominee Emily Blunt joins the cast as Kerr's wife, Dawn Staples. Further casting announcements are awaited.

While focusing on the film, Johnson is also scheduled for a wrestling comeback at WrestleMania 40. He'll team up with Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on the first night of the event. Additionally, Johnson will appear on the upcoming March 15th episode of SmackDown.

The film's gritty subject matter and A24's involvement, known for producing character-driven dramas, has generated considerable buzz.
