Cody Rhodes Creates Records At WWE Royal Rumble 2024

Cody Rhodes is embarking on the final chapter after emerging victorious in the 2024 Royal Rumble match.

Entering at number 15, Cody secured four eliminations, including Shinsuke Nakamura, Austin Theory, Gunther, and CM Punk.



After dispatching the remaining 28 competitors, Rhodes and Punk found themselves as the last two standing. They engaged in a back-and-forth battle, exchanging strikes. Punk landed a series of blows but was countered with a low powerslam by Cody. Attempting the Cody Cutter, Rhodes was caught by Punk, who responded with a sequence of suplexes. Punk followed up with a knee strike and a bulldog, signaling for the GTS. However, Cody slipped away, countering with CrossRhodes, and delivering clubbing shots along with a Bionic Elbow.

Despite Punk being tossed, Cody resiliently pulled himself back into the ring. Punk gestured towards the WrestleMania sign but fell victim to CrossRhodes. The crowd fervently chanted for Cody as Punk was lifted up, only to be hit with a GTS. Cody attempted a Crucifix to pull Punk over, but it proved unsuccessful. Punk retaliated with a Pedigree, declaring that he didn't wait a decade to lose to Dusty's kid. As Punk set up for another GTS, Cody thwarted the attempt and ejected Punk from the ring.

This marks Cody's second consecutive victory in the Royal Rumble, following his triumph in the 2023 edition. In 2023, Rhodes won the Men's Royal Rumble, earning him a championship match at WrestleMania 39. While Stone Cold Steve Austin holds the record with three victories in 1997, 1998, and 2001, other two-time winners include Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Batista, Triple H, Randy Orton, Edge, Brock Lesnar, and Cody Rhodes. Notably, Cody Rhodes stands alone as the only superstar to achieve back-to-back victories in the Royal Rumble.
