Mumbai, December 22 - Chinese film "The Battle At Lake Changjin" has shattered the box office records and becomes the first non-Hollywood film to gross $900 million at the worldwide box office. Interestingly, it is the most expensive Chinese film ever with a budget of $200 million.
"The Battle At Lake Changjin", which stars China's most-in-demand actors Wu Jing, Jackson Yee, Zhu Yawen, Li Chen, Hu Jun, and Duan Yihong, is currently the highest-grossing film worldwide in 2021. It has so far earned $902.5 million and is the only non-English film to reach the milestone.
Earlier, China's "Wolf Warrior 2" (2017) was the highest-grossing non-Hollywood film with a box office total of $870.3 million. China's "Hi, Mom" (2021) is at number 3 with $846.3 million. Two of the top 3 highest-grossing films of 2021, belong to China, while James Bond "No Time To Die" is at number 3 with $774 million worldwide.
"The Battle at Lake Changjin" glorifies Chinese sacrifices and heroism during the real-life battle in 1950 that took place at the eastern front in the second battle of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. It is directed by A-list Chinese filmmakers Chen Kaige, Hark Tsui, and Dante Lam and produced by Bona Film Group and state-backed film companies Shanghai Film Group and Huaxia.
