Box Office: Mahesh Babu's 'Khaleja' Scored Excellent Opening Worldwide
Hyderabad, May 31 - Superstar Mahesh Babu's Khaleja has scored an excellent opening at the worldwide box office upon its re-release on May 30. After scoring one of the biggest advances for an Indian re-release title, the movie exceeded expectations on the first day.
The fantasy action comedy film clocked over 3 crore pre-sales for the opening day in India, and with a fantastic response on spot booking, the film scored approximately 5.75 crores gross domestically on the first day. Overseas, the cult classic grossed around 1 crore, for a worldwide start of approximately 6.75 crores.
Among the Indian re-release titles, Khaleja scored the third biggest opening worldwide, after Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli (7.75 crore) and Pawan Kalyan's Gabbar Singh (7+ crore). As reported earlier, the Mahesh Babu starrer shattered records and became the biggest Indian re-release grosser in North America on the opening day itself.
Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the movie also stars Anushka Shetty as the female lead, alongside Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Shafi, Sunil, Ali, and Subbaraju in supporting roles. The film follows Raju, a taxi driver who is unexpectedly hailed as the prophesied divine saviour of a village suffering from a mysterious disease and must come to terms with his newfound status to protect the villagers.
