Box Office: KGF Chapter 2 Tops 1000 Crores Worldwide Gross

Bengaluru, May 1 - Director Prashanth Neel's "KGF Chapter 2", starring Kannada cinema's biggest superstar Yash, has done an unthinkable and become the first Kannada movie of all time to reach 1000 crores worldwide gross. Forget about 1000 crores gross, KGF 2 is the first Kannada movie to cross 250 crores worldwide gross which it had achieved in just 3 days.

It has been a box office journey to remember for the makers of KGF 2 who made it the costliest Kannada movie ever with a budget of 100 crores. It took just 18 days for KGF 2 to reach this magical box office figure. More importantly, it is only the 4th Indian movie to get there after "Baahubali 2", "Dangal", and the recently released "RRR".



Of course, this sort of success of KGF 2 wasn't possible without the support from the other versions of the movie, and that's where the movie hit the jackpot. The Hindi version of the film has contributed more than 40% of the total worldwide gross with approx. 435 crores gross in India alone.

Apart from Hindi, the other versions of the film (Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam) have scored approx. 414 crores at the domestic box office with a major contribution from the original Kannada version with approx. 140 crores gross. Overseas, it has so far crossed 175+ crores, for worldwide gross to 1025+ crores through 3rd Sunday.

Produced by Hombale Films, "KGF Chapter 2" has benefitted from the low response to the new Hindi releases, "Runway 34", and "Heropanti 2", and the Eid holidays will further strengthen its position. In the long run, KGF 2 is now the serious contender to become the biggest Indian grosser of the year. As of now, SS Rajamouli's "RRR" is the highest-grossing Indian movie of 2022 with 1106 crores (still running), and KGF 2 is expected to surpass it by the end of its box office run.

"KGF 2" follows the assassin Rocky Bhai (Yash), who after establishing himself as the kingpin of the Kolar Gold Fields, must retain his supremacy over adversaries and government officials, while also coming to terms with his past. It also stars Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, and Prakash Raj, among others in key roles.
