Ajay Devgn-Fronted Sports Biopic 'Maidaan' Postponed To May 2023

Mumbai, January 5 - Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn is flying high with the mega-blockbuster success of the suspense thriller "Drishyam 2", which is nearing 350 crores gross at the global box office. Ajay will have multiple releases this year, and one of them is the sports biopic which has been in production for a long time.

"Maidaan", directed by Amit Sharma, was scheduled to release in theaters in February this year, however, the post-production work is pending which is taking longer than expected time due to heavy VFX shots. Now, Ajay Devgn has confirmed that the film has been postponed and will now release on May 12 this year.



"Maidaan is one of my best films. We (the producers, the director & all actors) think it needs a big and proper release. The film's VFX is being handled by international studios and we want everything to align properly. Keeping the best interests of the film in mind, we have now decided to release the film on 12th May 2023", the actor told Pinkvilla.

The movie is a biopic of the former Indian football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim. It chronicles the golden era of Indian football – 1950 to 1965. It is touted to be Ajay Devgn's one of best performances and the makers are highly confident about its success.

Produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios, the movie stars Ajay Devgn as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim along with Priyamani, Rudranil Ghosh, and Gajraj Rao in prominent roles. AR Rahman composed the music for the movie.

Meanwhile, Ajay's next release will be his directorial "Bholaa", which is scheduled to release on March 30. It is the remake of the Tamil movie "Kaithi" and features Ajay in the title role along with Tabu, and many others in key roles. It will also be released in 3D.
