Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tops 525+ Crore Gross As It Eyes 575+ Crore Finish At The Indian Box Office

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, August 14 - Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has completed its second week on a sensational note at the Indian box office, with the Tom Holland-led superhero film grossing around 530 crore. It has already emerged as the highest-grossing non-Indian film and the first to cross 500 crore gross in the country, setting a new benchmark for Hollywood releases. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film has grossed around 130 crores in its second week, which is the biggest ever for a Hollywood film and one of the biggest at the Indian box office. However, the challenge for Brand New Day gets significantly tougher from here. The film is entering its third week with Awarapan 2, Batwara 1947 and Vishwanath And Sons arriving in cinemas and taking away a majority of the screens across the country. Despite the increased competition, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still maintaining a healthy run and is expected to make the most of the Independence Day weekend. The film has already demonstrated strong staying power, adding over 100 crore in its second week after an explosive opening week, and the national holiday period should help it remain relevant despite the reduced screen count. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The real test, however, will come after the Independence Day weekend. Once the holiday boost is over and the new releases settle in, it remains to be seen whether Spider-Man 4 can continue to score at the lower level with fewer shows and screens. At this point, though, the film has enough momentum and a sufficiently strong base to target a 575 crore-plus gross finish in India. If it manages to hold well beyond the weekend, an even bigger lifetime total cannot be ruled out.

Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia Starrer V Shantaram Biopic Pushed to 2027 as Director Denies Shelving Rumors

BY CHRISTA LINCY

The biographical film based on the life of the legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram has been generating a lot of curiosity since its announcement, especially with the interesting casting of Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia. While the project was originally expected to start its production cycle earlier this year in April, the lack of updates led to several rumors suggesting the film might have been shelved. However, new information has clarified that the project is very much on track, though the timeline has shifted significantly. According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, the film's director, Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande, has confirmed that the production has now been moved to 2027. The primary reason for this delay was a two-month setback in the initial planning stages, which eventually threw the entire shooting schedule out of sync. Since the team wanted to avoid the complications of the monsoon season for their outdoor sequences, they decided it was better to wait for a fresh window next year rather than rushing into a disjointed production. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The revised plan is to now commence shooting in April 2027. This timeline is strategically designed to allow the crew to finish all the necessary outdoor sequences first, before utilizing the subsequent monsoon months for interior shoots. Beyond the logistical benefits, the delay is also being used to strengthen the ensemble. The filmmaker revealed that they are currently in the process of adding a few more significant names to the cast to join Siddhant and Tamannaah, who will be portraying Shantaram and his second wife, the actress Jayashree, respectively. For those familiar with Indian cinema history, this biopic is quite an ambitious undertaking. It aims to chronicle Shantaram’s remarkable journey through the most transformative eras of filmmaking, starting from the silent era and moving into the advent of sound and color. The narrative will highlight his evolution as a visionary who directed iconic films like Do Aankhen Barah Haath, Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, and Pinjara. For Siddhant Chaturvedi, this marks his first biographical role, and he has previously expressed how deeply the filmmaker's perseverance and artistic legacy have moved him during his research for the character. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While the wait for the film has become a bit longer, the decision to delay seems to be a calculated move to ensure the project gets the scale and precision a figure like V. Shantaram deserves. By aligning the shooting schedule with the weather and refining the cast, the makers are positioning this biopic to be a meticulous tribute to one of India’s most influential cinematic pioneers. Fans of historical dramas will now have to keep an eye out for 2027 to see this visionary’s life unfold on the big screen.

Ramayana Part 1 Goes To China, But Can It Create Dangal-like Storm In a Changed Scenario?

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, August 13 - Director Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana Part 1 is expanding its theatrical footprint to China, marking another major step in the makers' ambitious global release strategy. The Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash starrer is reportedly confirmed for a November release in the Chinese market, where it will be presented under the title Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince. The China release could prove to be particularly significant for the film, given how massive it can be for an Indian title. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) China is obviously not a regular market for Indian cinema. Only a handful of Indian films have managed to make a significant impact there, with Dangal being the biggest example. The Aamir Khan starrer turned into an unprecedented phenomenon, earning more than $200 million in China and demonstrating just how massive the market can become when an Indian film genuinely connects with Chinese audiences. The challenge for Ramayana is that the Chinese theatrical landscape has changed considerably since Dangal. Domestic productions now dominate the market, with Chinese films accounting for more than 80% of the country's total box office in 2025. The trend has continued into 2026, with domestic titles commanding the majority of the market share, making it increasingly difficult for foreign films to break through. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) But this is where content becomes the biggest factor. China's dominance of domestic cinema doesn't mean foreign films cannot succeed; it simply means that a film has to give audiences a strong reason to choose it. Recent exceptions such as Zootopia 2 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day have shown that a foreign production can still become a massive hit when it strikes the right chord with Chinese audiences. For Ramayana, the opportunity is therefore enormous, but so is the uncertainty. The film has the scale, epicness and universal themes of good versus evil, family, sacrifice and duty that could potentially travel beyond India. If those elements resonate with Chinese audiences, the ceiling could be extremely high. After all, Dangal proved that an Indian film can overcome the limitations of the market and create genuine hysteria in China when the content clicks. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) A Dangal-like phenomenon is obviously a massive ask, especially in today's more domestically dominated Chinese market. But the beauty of the China opportunity is that Ramayana doesn't necessarily need to perform like a conventional foreign release. If the film gets the Chinese audience talking and generates strong word of mouth, the market could transform from being just another overseas territory into one of the biggest contributors to its worldwide box office. In China, it will ultimately come down to one thing — whether Ramayana clicks. If it does, the sky could be the limit.

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond Reveals Expansion Plans with 4 New 70mm Movies Slated for 2027

BY CHRISTA LINCY

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond has just released a new interview detailing the company's roadmap, which includes at least four unannounced movies slated for a 70mm release in 2027. This move follows a string of sold-out theatrical runs that have proven the massive audience appetite for authentic film projection. Gelfond's insights confirm that IMAX is no longer treating the 70mm format as a relic of the past but as a central part of its global strategy for the coming years. One of the most exciting takeaways from the interview is that IMAX currently has at least four unannounced movies slated for a 70mm release in 2027. While the specific titles remain a secret for now, this commitment shows that filmmakers are increasingly prioritizing the unique aesthetic and scale that only film can provide. This isn't just a one-off event but a growing movement that aims to give major tentpole releases the grand theatrical platform they deserve. The buzz is already building for 2029, with enthusiasts eager to see how the next wave of visionary directors will push the boundaries of this format. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) To support this growing demand, IMAX is essentially going on a scavenger hunt to increase its global capacity. Gelfond mentioned that the company is looking to track down and refurbish old 70mm projectors, with a goal of adding 10 more units to their current fleet. This would represent a 30 percent increase in capacity by the year 2027. The ultimate objective is to have roughly 75 of these specialized 70mm projectors functional across the globe. For context, the historical peak was around 102 projectors during the run of The Dark Knight Rises, so getting back toward that number would be a significant milestone for film preservation and exhibition. The expansion plan is also looking beyond North America. Gelfond expressed a clear desire to bring the 70mm experience to major markets like India and China, moving away from the saturation currently seen in the United States. He highlighted the incredible success of the IMAX 70mm screen in Melbourne, Australia, which has been recording insane numbers lately. This global interest proves that audiences everywhere are willing to seek out and pay for a premium, authentic film experience if it is made available to them. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The CEO also addressed the competition, specifically touching upon Disney's Infinity Vision. He characterized this as a clever way for Disney to market and brand their own premium releases, especially when IMAX screens are already occupied by other major studio tentpoles. While IMAX stands for the biggest cinematic events, Infinity Vision provides a dedicated branding tool for Disney's slate. This highlights how crowded the premium large format market has become, with IMAX still holding the crown for the most sought-after film experiences. Finally, the interview provided some rare transparency regarding the costs of these presentations. We now have a clear figure on the production of these massive reels: each IMAX 70mm film print costs roughly 50,000 dollars. When converted, this is approximately 48 lacs in Indian currency for a single print, and that is before you even consider the significant costs of international shipping and logistics. Despite these staggering expenses, the fact that screenings are consistently sold out for months indicates that the investment is paying off. The era of high-fidelity film projection is clearly entering a new golden age, and the roadmap for the next few years looks incredibly promising for moviegoers worldwide.

Ramayana Part 1 Titled as Ramayana The Legend of the Prince in China Set for Global Release on November 6

BY CHRISTA LINCY

The release strategy for Nitesh Tiwari’s much-discussed epic, Ramayana: Part 1, has taken an interesting turn as the makers prepare for a massive global rollout. In a departure from the usual practice of domestic-first releases, the international release date for the film has been fixated for November 6, 2026. Audiences in India will get to see the movie two days later, with the domestic launch scheduled for November 8, 2026. A major part of this international strategy involves a significant release in China. Sony Pictures, the studio handling the international distribution, recently revealed the official title for the film in China through their Weibo account. Titled Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince, the movie is being promoted by highlighting director Nitesh Tiwari's connection to Dangal. Since Dangal remains one of the most successful Indian films ever released in China, Sony is clearly using that established goodwill to build anticipation for this mythological project among Chinese moviegoers. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The core narrative follows the classic arc of the demon king Ravana causing chaos across the three realms, leading Lord Vishnu to descend in the incarnation of Rama to protect all beings. The film focuses on the fourteen-year exile, the abduction of Sita, and the subsequent battle that erupts between the vengeful king and the guardian deity. To elevate this grand narrative, the makers have brought on legendary composer Hans Zimmer to provide the score. The collaboration between Zimmer and Tiwari is one of the most analyzed aspects of the project, as fans are curious to see how a global soundscape fits an Indian epic. In terms of casting, the film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita. The role of the formidable antagonist, Ravana, is played by Yash, whose involvement has been a major draw for the project. Other notable cast members include Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. This ensemble brings together stars from different regional industries, supporting the film's goal of being a truly pan-Indian and global event. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) However, the journey toward the big screen has been met with a mixed reception following the initial glimpses of the film. While many viewers have praised the casting choices and the ambitious scale, there has been significant debate regarding the visual effects. Some fans have expressed concerns over the CGI quality, drawing unfavorable comparisons to previous mythological films that failed to deliver on the visual front. There is a visible divide between those who appreciate the modern, sleek aesthetic and those who feel that the digital work might take away from the traditional, grounded feel of the Ramayana story. Despite these varying opinions, the film remains one of the most expensive and ambitious projects ever attempted in Indian cinema. With Sony Pictures managing a massive global rollout and the weight of a legendary story behind it, Ramayana: Part 1 is positioned as a potential landmark release. The coming months will be crucial for the production team as they aim to build momentum for what is expected to be one of the biggest box office events of 2026.

Dulquer Salmaan Starrer I'm Game Moves to September 3 for a Much Larger Global and Pan India Release

BY CHRISTA LINCY

The wait for Dulquer Salmaan’s much-anticipated return to Malayalam cinema has just been extended by a few weeks. In an official announcement the makers of I'm Game have confirmed that the film will no longer arrive for the Onam season on August 20. Instead, the project is now scheduled for a massive worldwide release on September 3, 2026. While a delay might initially seem like a setback, the production team at Wayfarer Films has clarified that this move is part of a larger vision to ensure the film reaches the widest possible audience. By moving the release date, the team is gearing up for a simultaneous launch in five languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. This decision highlights the growing trend of Malayalam films aiming for a pan-Indian footprint, especially after the recent success of regional titles on a global scale. For a star like Dulquer Salmaan, who enjoys a significant following in the Telugu and Tamil markets, this wider release strategy makes perfect logical sense. The makers have emphasized that the game is simply getting bigger, allowing them to secure more screens and a better theatrical platform across different regions. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The project itself carries a lot of weight because of the creative minds involved. Director Nahas Hidayath, who delivered the high-octane blockbuster RDX, is leading the ship. His association with the legendary stunt directors Anbariv suggests that I'm Game will feature action sequences of a scale rarely seen in Mollywood. Known for their bone-crunching work in KGF and Vikram, Anbariv’s involvement is a clear indicator that this film is being mounted as a premium action-thriller. Adding to the technical prowess is Jakes Bejoy, who is handling the music and background score, which is always a key component in Nahas's films. In terms of the cast, the movie brings together an interesting mix of talent from various industries. Alongside Dulquer, the film features Antony Varghese, better known as Pepe, which adds a layer of raw energy to the proceedings. The inclusion of Tamil actor-director Mysskin and Kathir further strengthens its pan-Indian appeal. Other notable names in the ensemble include Kayadu Lohar, Vinay Forrt, and Samyuktha Viswanathan. This diverse lineup suggests that the story likely has multiple threads that traverse different geographical settings, making the multi-language release a necessity rather than just a choice. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) From an analytical perspective, stepping out of the crowded Onam window of August 20 might actually work in the film's favor. While Onam is traditionally the biggest period for Malayalam cinema, it often leads to a heavy clash where even big films struggle for optimal screen counts. By picking September 3, I'm Game positions itself as a solo heavyweight, allowing it to dominate the box office without the immediate pressure of local competition.

Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav Reunite for Malamaal Weekly 2 with New Addition Elvish Yadav

BY CHRISTA LINCY

Fans of classic Bollywood comedies have a reason to celebrate as the much-anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit Malamaal Weekly is finally taking shape. According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, the project has secured its primary male leads, bringing back a beloved trio while adding a fresh face to the mix. The sequel aims to recapture the chaotic energy that made the original a favorite among audiences two decades ago. The core of the original film featured the impeccable comic timing of Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, and both veterans are now officially locked in to return. Joining them is Riteish Deshmukh, who is set to lead the film once again. While sources close to the production indicate that Riteish is currently fine-tuning the details and reading the final script before formalizing the paperwork, the verbal confirmation is already in place. In an interesting casting move, popular YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT Season 2 winner Elvish Yadav has been brought on board as a principal cast member. This will mark his second venture into mainstream Bollywood, following his upcoming debut in an action project. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The female cast is equally impressive and adds significant star power to the ensemble. As previously revealed by Bollywood Hungama, the sequel will feature Parineeti Chopra, Raveena Tandon, and Shilpa Shirodkar in pivotal roles. This blend of seasoned actors and contemporary stars suggests that the makers are looking to appeal to a wide demographic, balancing nostalgia with modern-day popularity. On the creative side, the film will be helmed by Amit Joshi, who recently gained attention for co-directing the robotic rom-com Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Joshi is currently in the process of polishing the script, with plans to start the production cycle by November 2026. While Malamaal Weekly 2 will offer a completely new storyline, it intends to stay true to the thematic roots of its predecessor. The narrative will once again focus on ordinary small-town residents caught in a web of poverty, greed, and the sudden prospect of wealth, leading to a classic comedy of errors. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The decision to revisit this franchise is backed by the impressive commercial legacy of the first film. Released in 2006, Malamaal Weekly was a definitive box office success, earning a superhit verdict from trade analysts. The movie collected a net total of approximately ₹26.70 Cr in India, with the total India gross reaching around ₹36.05 Cr. On the global stage, it performed quite well for its time, securing roughly ₹5.65 Cr from overseas markets and pushing its worldwide gross to a solid ₹41.70 Cr. Its simple yet effective premise of villagers fighting over a lottery ticket struck such a chord that it was eventually remade in several regional languages, including Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Beyond its theatrical run, the film achieved a legendary status on television that few movies can boast of. For over a decade, channels like Set Max and Goldmines broadcasted the movie almost every week, turning it into a staple for Indian households. It consistently delivered massive TRP ratings for networks, eventually becoming one of the most-watched Hindi comedies on the small screen. This enduring television legacy, often compared to other cult classics like Sooryavansham and Nayak, ensured that the characters and their antics remained fresh in the public memory long after the film left the cinema halls. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The decision to revisit this franchise makes sense when looking at the legacy of the 2006 original. Directed by Priyadarshan, Malamaal Weekly was a significant box office success and saw itself remade in several regional languages including Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Its simple yet effective premise of villagers fighting over a lottery ticket struck a chord with the masses. By retaining the comic spirit and the original lead trio, the sequel seems positioned to tap into that established goodwill while offering a fresh perspective for the current generation of cinema-goers.

Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 Reportedly Locks Biggest Post-Theatrical OTT Deal For Tamil Cinema With Amazon Prime Video

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Chennai, August 13 - Superstar Rajinikanth's much-awaited Jailer 2 has reportedly achieved a massive milestone even before its theatrical release, with the film reportedly locked in the biggest post-theatrical OTT deal in Tamil cinema. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial, one of the most anticipated Tamil films, has reportedly been acquired by Amazon Prime Video for a staggering 160 crore. If the reported figure is accurate, the Rajinikanth starrer has established a new record for a Tamil film's post-theatrical streaming rights, underlining the enormous value attached to the superstar and the Jailer franchise. Amazon Prime Video is also not new to the franchise, having acquired the digital rights to the first Jailer, which became a major blockbuster following its theatrical release in 2023. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The sequel is expected to take the franchise on a much bigger scale, with Rajinikanth returning as Muthuvel Pandian and Nelson once again handling the direction. The reported OTT deal comes at a crucial stage for Jailer 2, which has already completed its shoot, with the makers already conforming October 15 release date. Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 also stars Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Rithvik, reprising their roles from the predecessor, with S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna joining the cast in key roles, while Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan plays a crucial cameo.

Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi Revive Batwara 1947 After a Sixteen Year Battle Against Industry Skepticism

BY CHRISTA LINCY

Batwara 1947 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 14, 2026, ending a professional hiatus between Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi that dates back to the mid-nineties. While the duo was once the most formidable force in Hindi cinema with classics like Ghayal and Damini, the journey of this specific project has been a difficult one, spanning roughly 16 years of development hell and industry skepticism. The 16-year timeline began around 2010 when the duo first attempted to pitch Batwara 1947 to major studios. At that time, both the actor and the director were navigating a difficult phase in their careers, marked by several box-office disappointments. This led to a harsh industry perception where the pairing was labeled as not saleable. Financiers were hesitant to back a veteran team that had not delivered a major commercial success in years, and the project was effectively shelved as no big banner was willing to take the risk. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) A significant hurdle was the nature of the script itself. While producers were pressuring Sunny Deol to stick to loud, mass-market action films, Batwara 1947 was envisioned as a realistic period drama based on a celebrated play about the emotional trauma of the Partition. Studios viewed a serious, art-house leaning narrative as a massive financial risk, especially when the lead star was struggling with his theatrical pull. For over a decade, the project remained stagnant because the market demanded a version of Sunny Deol that didn't align with the director's grounded vision. The actor's filmography during this 16-year period reflected this struggle. Projects like Singh Saab the Great and his own directorial effort Ghayal Once Again underperformed at the box office. Later films like Poster Boys and Blank were also commercially disappointing, further fueling the narrative that his era as a bankable lead was fading. Without a major hit to his name, the ambitious Batwara 1947 appeared to be a lost cause, existing only in trade discussions rather than active production. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The trajectory shifted entirely with the massive success of Gadar 2, which proved there was still a huge, loyal audience for the veteran actor. This turnaround was further solidified earlier this year with the release of Border 2, which also performed exceptionally well at the box office. These consecutive hits restored his position as a bankable superstar, providing the necessary commercial momentum to revive Batwara 1947 after years of stagnation. Recognizing this renewed market demand, Aamir Khan stepped in under his banner to finance the project, finally allowing the director the creative independence to pursue a realistic and serious tone without the pressure of typical commercial tropes. Batwara 1947 faces a direct clash with Awarapan 2, which is currently leading the race in terms of advance bookings. While the competitor has secured a stronger start with initial ticket sales, the Sunny Deol starrer is positioned as a grounded, realistic drama that might take a bit longer to find its full momentum. Since the film avoids the loud tropes of a typical commercial entertainer, it will be solely dependent on positive word of mouth to prove its worth and draw in the larger family audience over the holiday weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) With Aamir Khan backing the project, the production scale was elevated without compromising the artistic integrity of the story. This allowed for a realistic recreation of the 1947 landscape and a cast that prioritized performance over mass appeal, including the return of Preity Zinta. The film is now a reality because a historic box-office turnaround revived a script that had been rejected for over a decade.

Vijay Sethupathi and Balaji Tharaneetharan reunite for Baththa set for a worldwide release on October 1

BY CHRISTA LINCY

Vijay Sethupathi is teaming up with director Balaji Tharaneetharan for their third film together, titled Baththa. This official announcement confirms the reunion of the pair responsible for Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi. Since the news broke today, the project has been widely discussed across social media, as it brings back a partnership known for a very specific style of storytelling in Tamil cinema. This collaboration is particularly significant because it brings back the team responsible for the cult classic Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and the experimental Seethakaathi. Given their history of working on unique scripts, the expectation is that Baththa will follow a similar path of creative storytelling. Adding to the film's appeal is the presence of Lijomol Jose as the female lead, an actor known for her powerful performances in critically acclaimed projects. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The project is presented by filmmaker Atlee and produced by Priya Atlee. Notably, this film marks the entry of prominent Bollywood production houses like Star Studio and Cine1 Studios into the Tamil industry. This collaboration showcases a strategic effort to bring a larger production scale to Tamil cinema by bridging regional and national production units. On the technical side, the film features a fresh and talented crew. The music is being composed by Sai Abhyankkar, while the cinematography is handled by Selva Kumar SK. R Kalaivanan has been brought on board as the editor to round out the core team. These names suggest a focus on technical excellence to match the creative depth usually found in a Balaji Tharaneetharan directorial. With a worldwide release already scheduled for October 1, the team is moving swiftly to bring this story to the audience. Baththa looks like a promising addition to Vijay Sethupathi's diverse filmography, especially since it reunites him with a director who understands his range so well. As we head toward the October release, the anticipation remains centered on how this duo will manage to surprise the viewers for the third time.

Dulquer Salmaan's 40th Film I'm Game Postponed From Its Scheduled Onam Release

BY CHRISTA LINCY

The highly anticipated Onam box office showdown has taken an unexpected turn with the latest update regarding Dulquer Salmaan's milestone project, I'm Game. Originally scheduled for a grand worldwide theatrical release on August 20, 2026, the film has now been postponed. According to recent reports from industry insiders, the delay is due to the incompletion of post-production work. While fans were eagerly counting down the days to see the superstar in his 40th film, it appears the makers are prioritizing the final quality of this high-budget mega-project over meeting the initial deadline. The scale of I'm Game justifies the extra time being taken in the editing room. Produced under Dulquer's own banner, Wayfarer Films, the production has spanned over 100 diverse locations to capture the international flavor of the story. Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, who recently delivered the massive hit RDX, the film is expected to be a high-octane action thriller. To ensure the action sequences are world-class, the team brought in the acclaimed stunt duo Anbariv, known for their work in major blockbusters like KGF and Vikram. This combination of a hit-making director and elite stunt coordinators has made the film one of the most talked-about projects in the Malayalam industry. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In this film, Dulquer Salmaan steps into a role that is being described as sleek, modern, and entirely fearless. He portrays a charismatic gambler who famously lives by the philosophy of trusting luck more than life itself. However, the plot suggests that his high-stakes lifestyle is thrown into absolute chaos by a series of unexpected events. This shift drags his character away from the luxury of the casino and into the middle of ruthless international gang wars and a desperate struggle for survival. The first-look posters, which show the actor surrounded by cash and casino chips, have already set a stylish tone for what is being called a landmark performance in his career. The supporting cast is equally powerhouse, featuring a blend of talent from across industries. The film stars Antony Varghese, popularly known as Pepe, along with Mysskin, Kathir, Samyuktha Viswanathan, and Kayadu Lohar. This ensemble suggests that the narrative will have multiple layers and intense character dynamics. On the musical front, the film has already started making waves. The romantic track Mazhavillaye, composed by Jakes Bejoy and sung by Armaan Malik, recently dropped and instantly crossed the 2 million views mark. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Before the postponement was announced, I'm Game was set for a massive Onam box office clash. It was positioned to go head-to-head with other heavyweights like Prithviraj's Khalifa and Nivin Pauly's Bethlehem Kudumba Unit. This three-way battle between the top stars of Mollywood was the highlight of the festive season's calendar. With Dulquer's film now moving out of the August 20 slot, the box office dynamics for Onam 2026 will shift significantly.

Suriya's Vishwanth And Sons Clocks 200+ Crore Pre-Release Business; Details Revealed

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Chennai, August 12 - Tamil superstar Suriya's Vishwanath And Sons has reportedly registered strong pre-release business ahead of its theatrical release, with the film reportedly fetching 200+ crore across theatrical and non-theatrical avenues. The strong valuation comes on the back of Suriya's improved market following the success of Karuppu, while the upcoming film is expected to target a wider family audience with its emotional drama. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The 200+ crore pre-release business is divided across multiple territories and rights. Tamil Nadu rights have reportedly been sold for 45 crore, while the Telugu states have fetched around 20 crore. Karnataka stands at 5 crore, with the rest of India contributing another 5 crore. The overseas theatrical business is valued at around 15 crore, taking the total theatrical business to 90 crore. The biggest contribution comes from the non-theatrical rights, at 125 crore across OTT, satellite, and music. Despite the impressive 215 crore pre-release valuation, the film still has a significant theatrical target to achieve. Vishwanath And Sons needs to gross around 175 crore worldwide for the theatrical side to emerge as a clean hit. This means the film will need a strong run across India, particularly in Tamil Nadu and the Telugu states, while also maintaining a healthy overseas performance. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The target looks achievable on paper given Suriya's improved current market standing and the holiday advantage around the film's release. However, the real test will be the audience response, as the movie is expected to rely more heavily on family audiences and word of mouth than the action-driven appeal of Karuppu. If the film connects strongly with its target audience, the 175 crore worldwide mark could be within reach. The movie is scheduled to release on August 14.

Jinder Mahal Says His Promo With The Rock Got More Messages Than His WWE Championship Win

BY JITU JANGIR

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has revealed that his memorable confrontation with The Rock on WWE Raw generated more messages and phone calls than the night he won the WWE Championship. Mahal discussed the moment during an interview with Denise Salcedo, reflecting on the January 1, 2024 episode of Raw, where he unexpectedly found himself sharing the ring with one of the biggest stars in WWE history. The segment began with Mahal delivering a heated promo in which he complained about being disrespected and criticized the United States. He was then interrupted by The Rock, who returned to WWE and quickly turned the segment into a memorable verbal exchange before taking down Mahal. Looking back at the reaction to the segment, Mahal revealed that the response was surprisingly bigger than what he experienced after becoming WWE Champion. “More people messaged me after that promo with The Rock than when I won the WWE Championship. Yes. Yes. Yes. I guess it was a bigger moment. More people saw it. You’re in the ring with The Rock, like the most recognizable name in all of entertainment—or in anything—in the whole entire world.” Mahal explained that his perspective was somewhat different because, as a professional wrestler, he was simply doing his job. Even though becoming WWE Champion was obviously a major achievement, the reaction to the Rock segment showed him how much mainstream attention can come from sharing a moment with a superstar of The Rock's stature. Mahal also revealed that he did not have much time to prepare for the segment. He said he learned only a couple of days beforehand that The Rock would be involved. “I was just told, ‘Hey, you’re going to go out there and then Rock’s going to crash.’ That’s it. That’s all I was told.” The promo itself was written by former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz. Mahal recalled receiving the material on the morning of the show and initially questioning whether some of the lines could actually be delivered on WWE television. “It was kind of talking trash about the United States and the way things are here. And I thought, ‘We can’t do this on WWE TV.’ I asked him, like, ‘Brian, are you sure?’ He’s like, ‘Yes, I’m sure. This is what we’re doing.’ I was like, ‘Okay, let’s go.’” The segment would ultimately become one of the most talked-about moments of the show, with Mahal playing an important role in The Rock's return. Mahal also recalled meeting The Rock before the segment and being impressed by how prepared the Hollywood star was. According to Mahal, The Rock had already memorized his material while Mahal was still going through his lines with a piece of paper. “At that time, Rock already had the promo memorized. I was still going to talk to Brian about it, but Rock wanted to rehearse. He’s hitting his lines. I’m still reading from a piece of paper.” Despite the pressure of working with The Rock, Mahal believes he delivered one of the strongest promos of his career and showed fans a side of himself that they had not seen before. “I really felt like I held my own and I showed the WWE Universe and WWE management a different side of me, a different promo style.” Mahal admitted that WWE ultimately did not capitalize on the momentum from the segment, but he has no regrets about being part of it. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalize on it, but all good. It was a great moment.” The former WWE Champion also revealed that The Rock later sent him a voice message thanking him for his contribution to the segment.

Jinder Mahal Recalls Roman Reigns’ WWE Debut Days: 'He Was Unmotivated and Unfocused'

BY JITU JANGIR

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has opened up about Roman Reigns' early days in WWE developmental, revealing that the two men actually started at Florida Championship Wrestling on the exact same day. While speaking with Denise Salcedo, Mahal recalled that Reigns was a very different person when he first arrived in developmental compared to the global superstar he eventually became. “Me and Roman started in FCW in developmental the exact same day,” Mahal revealed. The former WWE Champion said the future Tribal Chief was still finding his direction at the time after his football career had ended. “At first, like at that time, Roman, he was a little bit out of shape,” Mahal recalled. “He basically after football had gotten a job. I believe even moving furniture or something. And I think he was drinking and just unmotivated and unfocused.” However, Mahal said Reigns quickly began showing signs that he could become something special. He specifically remembered watching Reigns' first match against Joe Hennig, who later became known as Curtis Axel. “I also remember his very first match. It was against Joe Henning, Curtis Axel. And like his first match was really, really good for a first match. Like unbelievable.” Mahal said the wrestlers backstage immediately noticed something different about Reigns. “I remember watching it as it's happening. We had the little viewing area backstage and with a monitor where all the wrestlers watch it. I remember like everybody watching it like, ‘Wow, like this is his first match.’” According to Mahal, WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes was also among the first people to recognize Reigns' potential. Mahal recalled a promo class where Rhodes singled out Reigns, who was performing under the name Leakee at the time. “Actually Dusty Rhodes was the first person to call it,” Mahal said. “I remember it was promo class just on a random Wednesday and he said, ‘Out of this whole group, the guy here is Roman Reigns.’” Mahal said Rhodes specifically told the group that Reigns was the standout. “At that time his name was Leakee. He said, ‘Leakee is the guy.’” However, Mahal believes Reigns truly began to transform after suffering an ACL injury. “But that, like Roman or Leakee didn't come really into somewhat of a full form until he came back from that ACL surgery.” Mahal explained that fans can see a major difference when looking back at Reigns' early NXT footage. “If you go on YouTube and you see Leakee in early days of NXT, that's when he came with the black and gold, with the trunks, and he's in good shape and product in his hair and he's polished.” Mahal described it as a major transformation. “So it was a nice glow-up.” From there, Mahal watched Reigns evolve into one of WWE's biggest stars, first through The Shield and eventually into the Tribal Chief character. “And then just to see the evolution then onto Shield,” Mahal said. “Same time Shield started, 3MB started like one or two weeks apart.” Mahal pointed out that their respective groups represented completely different sides of WWE at the time. “We were the counterposition of the Shield. We're the complete opposite of the Shield.” Looking back at Reigns' journey from developmental to becoming WWE's dominant Tribal Chief, Mahal believes the transformation has been remarkable. “And then the next evolution into the Tribal Chief and then what he is today is incredible.”

Jinder Mahal Reveals Vince McMahon Personally Approved His Surprise TV Appearance

BY JITU JANGIR

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has revealed that Vince McMahon personally approved an unexpected television opportunity he received while working for WWE. Mahal discussed the story during an interview with Denise Salcedo, explaining that he was offered a role on ABC's Big Sky around 2020. Rather than waiting for the usual process to play out, Mahal decided to go directly to McMahon. “I got offered to go on a TV show. It was probably around maybe 2020,” Mahal recalled. “I got offered to go on a TV show and I just went straight to Vince.” The former WWE Champion revealed that the show was Big Sky, which aired on ABC. “It was on ABC. It was a show called Big Sky. And I just went to Vince directly and just asked him in his office and he said, ‘Yeah.’” Mahal then informed WWE talent relations that he already had McMahon's approval. “So then I went to [talent relations] after that and I told him Vince already said yes. And there was still a little bit of a hold up, but nonetheless, we got it pushed through.” Despite receiving permission from McMahon, Mahal revealed that WWE did not use the opportunity to promote him. “I just did it and WWE didn't advertise it or push it or anything, but I got to do a TV show.” Mahal believes the situation was particularly notable because outside opportunities for WWE wrestlers were viewed differently during McMahon's era. “At that time it was a little bit of a taboo thing to do,” Mahal explained. “Just Vince was in a good mood that day. He could have easily have said no.” The former WWE Champion also offered his perspective on why McMahon was sometimes protective of WWE talent pursuing opportunities outside wrestling. “I've always felt that WWE and Vince, he was protective,” Mahal said. “He didn't want someone to maybe leave the wrestling business or get too big, too famous, and then you all of a sudden have to pay them more and give them less dates.” According to Mahal, that dynamic has changed considerably in WWE today. He believes wrestlers now have significantly more opportunities outside the company and more control over their careers. “But right now I feel that wrestlers really do have a lot of power,” Mahal stated. “There's other leagues that have started that are around, other viable options for wrestlers to pursue careers in.” Mahal also pointed to mainstream exposure as something that can benefit both wrestlers and wrestling companies. “Overall, it's all good for wrestlers. Again, exposure, mainstream exposure is both good for the wrestler and the wrestling promotion.” His comments provide an interesting look back at how outside entertainment opportunities were handled during his WWE career—and how much the landscape has changed since then.

Randy Orton and Alexa Bliss Both Make Long-Awaited In-Ring Returns at WWE Live Event

BY JITU JANGIR

The August 13 WWE Summer Tour stop at SNHU Arena delivered two major comebacks in one night, with both stars stepping back between the ropes for the first time in months. Alexa Bliss teamed with Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton in a six-woman tag match against Fatal Influence's Lainey Reid, Jacy Jayne, and Fallon Henley — and came away with the win. Bliss wrestled with a visible wrap still on her arm, but she'd been medically cleared to compete, marking her first match in over a month. Her previous in-ring appearance came on the July 10 episode of SmackDown, where a brutal attack by Jade Cargill left her with an arm injury and sidelined her from action. Bliss had already reappeared on WWE television the Friday before this event, aiding Flair against Cargill and welcoming newcomer Tatum Paxley to the brand, but August 13 represented her true return to competition. The night's main event saw Randy Orton collide with Cody Rhodes in a street fight, snapping an even longer layoff. Orton hadn't wrestled since falling to Rhodes at WrestleMania 42. He'd since resurfaced during WWE SummerSlam, inserting himself into Rhodes' title picture by costing him the Undisputed WWE Championship — a moment that set the stage for their rivalry to boil back over. The August 13 street fight marked Orton's first match since WrestleMania, putting him right back in the ring with the man he'd targeted since his return. Between Bliss working through a still-healing arm and Orton finally getting back into the ring after months on the shelf, WWE's August 13 stop in Manchester ended up delivering two significant in-ring returns on the same night, giving fans at SNHU Arena a show stacked with fresh storyline momentum heading into the fall.

Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 Box Office: Emraan Hashmi's Actioner Takes A Big Lead Over Sunny Deol's Partition Drama

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, August 14 - The Independence Day weekend box office battle between Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 is turning into a one-sided affair with the former taking a big lead over Deol's period drama in the morning shows on its opening day. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Emraan Hashmi-led actioner has opened up a significant lead in advance bookings. The sequel clocked over 11 crore in advance sales, while Batwara 1947 has managed approximately 4+ crore. This gave Awarapan 2 a lead of more than 7 crore and already put it well ahead of the Sunny Deol starrer even before the first shows begin. The strong response to Awarapan 2 can be attributed to the cult following of the 2007 original, with Emraan Hashmi's return to the franchise generating considerable nostalgia. The film is also positioned as a dark romantic actioner, giving it a different appeal from Batwara 1947, a period drama centred on the Partition era. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Considering the initial response, Awarapan 2 is expected to score almost 3x that of Batwara 1947 and with the positive word of mouth coming from the initial shows sets up the stage for the massive opening weekend for Rajkumar Santoshi's directorial, which could be well over 75 crores net. For Batwara 1947, the slower advance sales are certainly a concern, particularly given Sunny Deol's post-Gadar 2 box office standing. However, the Rajkumar Santoshi-directed film has a strong Independence Day setting, and if the word of mouth is positive, it has the potential to do well at the box office. But as things stand, Awarapan 2 has taken a commanding lead in the opening-day battle and is expected to be the clear winner in the long run.

WWE Announces Seven-City Road to Survivor Series: WarGames Tour Across US and Canada

BY JITU JANGIR

WWE is expanding its Road to Survivor Series: WarGames schedule, announcing seven new live event dates across the United States and Canada. The newly added shows will take place throughout October and November, building toward Survivor Series: WarGames in Houston later that month. The tour serves as a lead-up to WWE's biggest fall event. In July, WWE, in partnership with Houston First Corporation and the Houston Astros, announced that Survivor Series: WarGames will be held at Daikin Park in Houston on Saturday, Nov. 28, marking the event's return to the city for the first time since 2017. This year's show will be the 40th annual Survivor Series and the fifth in a row to be built around the WarGames match, the team-based steel cage format where two full-sized rings sit side by side inside a single roofless cage. It will also mark the second straight year Survivor Series has been staged inside a Major League Baseball stadium, following last year's record-setting attendance at Petco Park in San Diego, home of the San Diego Padres. Houston brings a long history with WWE's biggest events, having previously hosted WrestleMania in 2001 and 2009, the Royal Rumble in 1989 and 2020, and Survivor Series itself in 2017, in addition to numerous episodes of Raw and SmackDown over the years. Daikin Park, formerly known as Minute Maid Park, last hosted a WWE premium live event with the 2020 Royal Rumble. WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque called Houston the perfect host city to mark what he described as a milestone chapter in Survivor Series' history. With seven live events now locked in across six weeks leading into the pay-per-view, the Road to Survivor Series: WarGames Tour gives fans across Canada, the West Coast, the Midwest, the Northeast, and the Southeast a chance to see WWE Superstars in action before the roster heads to Houston for the November 28 showdown. WWE Remains Optimistic On Chelsea Green's Injury, Interim Title Not Expected To Be Stripped

BY JITU JANGIR

WWE remains optimistic about Chelsea Green's injury status, according to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select Radio, and she is not expected to be removed from television or stripped of the Interim Women's Championship. The update comes after a difficult week for Green. She won the Interim WWE Women's Championship at SummerSlam 2026 on August 3, outlasting Charlotte Flair, Tiffany Stratton, Lash Legend, and Jade Cargill in a ladder match. The interim title was created after then-champion Rhea Ripley was ruled out with a torn meniscus that required surgery, opening the door for Green to finally capture her first world championship. Just days later, on the August 7 episode of SmackDown, Green teamed with Stratton in a Women's Tag Team Championship match against Fatal Influence's Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid. Green ended up taking the pinfall after Henley and Reid hit their Rolling Encore finishing move, and it was during that sequence that she suffered a broken orbital bone. Lash Legend and Nia Jax also attacked Green and Stratton after the match. Green addressed the injury herself in a video posted to Instagram, saying the situation felt different from injuries she'd played through before and that she was taking things day by day while processing the head trauma. It marked yet another setback in a rough stretch for Green, who has also dealt with a heart issue over the past year that required hospitalization and a medical procedure. The injury drew reactions from a wide range of names across wrestling, including Nikki Bella, Brie Bella, and Natalya, along with AEW stars such as Sammy Guevara and Thunder Rosa, as well as Green's real-life husband, Matt Cardona. The exact recovery timetable remains unclear, but WWE's stated optimism suggests the company does not currently see the injury as one that will force Green off television or require the title to be vacated. Given that Green only just captured her first world championship, WWE appears intent on letting her hold onto the title through her recovery rather than turning to a second interim reign so soon after the first.

Bayley's AEW-Teasing Instagram Post Reportedly Raised Eyebrows Backstage In WWE

BY JITU JANGIR

Bayley's latest social media post reportedly did not land well with everyone backstage in WWE, according to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select. The video featured highlights from Bayley training at various locations alongside different wrestlers, including AEW star Mercedes Moné, and was set to the song "All In" by The Grouch & Eligh. She captioned the post "all or nothing, baby." Some WWE backstage personnel reportedly viewed the post as "eyebrow-raising." The reaction makes sense given the timing. Bayley's WWE contract is reportedly set to expire in October, and she has not wrestled for the company since a July 26 live event in Bakersfield, California. Her last televised appearance came at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 18 at Madison Square Garden, where she lost to Lyra Valkyria, who then attacked her after the match and later declared on Raw that she had run Bayley out of the company. Against that backdrop, a training video featuring an AEW star, set to a song sharing its name with AEW's biggest pay-per-view, read to many as more than a coincidence. AEW's All In event takes place at Wembley Stadium in London on August 30, and Bayley's "all or nothing" caption also echoes the branding of AEW's Double or Nothing event. Mercedes Moné, a longtime friend of Bayley's dating back to their time together in WWE's Four Horsewomen storyline with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, has added to the speculation herself, having previously shared a fan-made graphic teasing a possible match between the two at AEW WrestleDream. Even so, people close to the situation inside AEW reportedly aren't convinced anything is imminent. Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live that sources within AEW are just as confused by the teasing as everyone else, and that Bayley is believed to remain under WWE contract through around January once any additional time the company tacks on is factored in, making a Bayley-Moné AEW match unlikely in the near term. Dave Meltzer has reported separately that Bayley has not signed a new WWE contract and currently has a decision to make about her future. Nothing has been confirmed by Bayley, WWE, or AEW, but between the backstage reaction, the contract uncertainty, and the ongoing storyline with Valkyria, her long-term status with the company remains one of wrestling's more closely watched situations heading into the fall.
