Mumbai, March 10 - Warner Bros. is moving the release dates of its upcoming DC Comics movies again due to the covid-related delays. Most of these movies are said to be heavy on VFX which is taking longer than expected times in post-production during Covid.
According to Deadline, Dwayne Johnson-led "Black Adam", which was supposed to release on July 29, will now hit theaters after nearly 4 months on October 21, 2022. The animated superhero movie, "DC League of Super-Pets", in which Johnson has voiced Krypto the Superdog, moves from May 20 to July 29.
Ezra Miller-fronted "The Flash", which alone has 2,500 VFX shots, is moving to June 23, 2023, from November 4, this year. It is one of DCs most-anticipated films that also marks Michael Keaton's return as Batman after nearly 30 years. He will also be seen as Batman in "Batgirl", due to the premiere on HBO Max in 2022.
Among some other high-profile postponements, Jason Momoa-led highly awaited "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" also moves to 2023. It was slated for December 16, 2022, release but now will debut in theaters on March 17. Meanwhile, "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" moves up and will take "Aquaman 2's" slot. It will up against James Cameron's potential all-time blockbuster "Avatar 2", which is also ready for December 16, 2022, release.
The upcoming science fiction action film, "Meg 2: The Trench" has been set for August 4, 2023, while "Wonka" moves from March 17, 2023, to December 15, 2023. These all aforementioned films will have theatrical releases for 45-days before moving to HBO Max.
Warner Bros. returned to a 45-day theatrical window this past weekend with Robert Pattinson's "The Batman", which has grossed over $300M worldwide in just 5 days; this after 2021 in which the Burbank lot executed a theatrical/HBO Max day-and-date strategy.
