Mumbai, November 7 - Akshay Kumar-fronted "Sooryavanshi" is turning out to be a record-breaking outing for the Bollywood film industry. After taking a thundering opening of Rs. 26.29 crores on Friday, the Rohit Shetty-directed remained super-strong on Saturday as well with a slight drop of 9% for Rs. 23.85 crores.
However, the bigger story is that despite the drop on day 2 (Saturday), the box office numbers of "Sooryavanshi" were big enough to make it the biggest second-day collection film for Akshay Kumar, overstepping "Good Newwz's" Rs. 21.78 cr. "Sooryavanshi" also becomes the highest first Saturday collection film for Akshay, ahead of "Mission Mangal's" Rs. 23.58 cr.
"Sooryavanshi", which also stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh as Singham and Simmba along with Katrina Kaif in the female lead, is the 4th film in director Rohit Shetty's cop universe. The second day at the box office also brought cheers for Rohit Shetty, who waited over 18 months to bring the film to theaters.
With only behind "Chennai Express" (28.05 cr.), "Sooryavanshi" is the second biggest Saturday collection flick for Shetty. It is ahead of Ranveer Singh-led "Simmba" (23.33 cr.). "Sooryavanshi" also becomes the highest second-day grosser Indian film of 2021, beating Rajinikanth's "Annaatthe" (24.10 cr.).
"Sooryavanshi" reported higher occupancy on Sunday as compared to the first two days. With a Sunday box office projection of 28.50 crores, it is set to become the biggest opening weekend grosser for Akshay Kumar, edging "Kesari" (78.07 cr.).
Overseas, "Sooryavanshi" grossed Rs. 16.68 crores in the first two days, taking its total worldwide gross collection to 76.4 crores. On Sunday, it will break into the 100 crore club and will become the first Bollywood film to achieve the feat during the covid-19 pandemic.
