Producer Guild and Multiplex Association of India Acknowledged Historic Box Office Weekend (August 11-13) In India

Mumbai, August 14 - The Producers Guild of India and Multiplex Association of India have jointly issued a statement on the historic box office weekend of August 11 to August 13 in India which show collections topping 400 crores gross.
The statement read the August 11-13 weekend proved to be the all-time biggest single weekend in the 100+ years of Indian cinema history in terms of gross box office collection. The same weekend also drew 2.10+ crores in admissions in theaters, which is also the highest combined footfalls in the last 10-year history.
Shibasish Sarkar, president of GUILD, said in the statement, "Mainstream storytelling executed in the right way has resulted in the box office records being shattered. The turnout at theaters has infused a new energy in our industry, audiences are responding in numbers we have not seen for a long time".
Kamal Gianchandani, president of MAI, added, "It was a historic weekend which proves once again that India loves going to cinemas to see great movies. This weekend is also an undeniable demonstration of cinemas being the ultimate place to be a part of a shared experience. This weekend shows that movies and cinemas are back in a big, big way".
The biggest contributor to this historic collection during the said weekend was Sunny Deol's period action drama film "Gadar 2" which grossed a huge 159 crores, followed by superstar Rajinikanth's "Jailer" which grossed minted approx. 120 crores, Akshay Kumar's "OMG 2" with approx. 51 crores, and Chiranjeevi's "Bholaa Shankar" which contributed approx. 31 crores.
Meanwhile, the same weekend also created history for PVR Cinemas across the country. It announced PVR cinemas sold approx. 13 lakh tickets worth 39.50 crores gross which is an all-time record for the multiplex chain in a single weekend.
