Los Angeles, April 26, 2021: In the first of its kind of Award Ceremony, American drama film Nomadland has created history as its begged top honors at the 93rd Academy Awards. The movie won the Oscar for Best Picture while Chinese filmmaker, Chloe Zhao has created history as she has become only the second woman to win the Oscar for Best Director for Nomadland. Kathryn Bigelow was the first woman to receive the honour for The Hurt Locker (2008).
Frances McDormand, who played the role of van dwelling woman in Nomadland, won the Oscars for the Best Actress in a Leading Role while the Best Actor award went to Anthony Hopkins for The Father. Yuh-Jung Youn also joined the history-making category and won best supporting actress for Minari, becoming the first-ever Korean actor or actress to win an Oscar.
Among the other top honors, Daniel Kaluuya claimed Best Supporting Actor for Warner Bros.' Judas and the Black Messiah. Emerald Fennell won Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman while the Best Adapted Screenplay was won by The Father. The White Tiger, starring Priyanka Chopra, was nominated in this category.
