American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift on Saturday (June 13) calls out for the unity of all Tennesseans by taking down statues of the historical figures who did bad things through systemic oppression of hatred and violence on the black community.

The singer took to Twitter and wrote a thread of Tweets, "As a Tennessean, it makes me sick that there are monuments standing in our state that celebrate racist historical figures who did evil things. Edward Carmack and Nathan Bedford Forrest were DESPICABLE figures in our state history and should be treated as such".

"Taking down statues isn’t going to fix centuries of systemic oppression, violence and hatred that black people have had to endure but it might bring us one small step closer to making ALL Tennesseans and visitors to our state feel safe - not just the white ones," she wrote in another tweet.

She tweeted another saying that it is hurtful to continue fighting for those monuments that have a racist history. "I’m asking the Capitol Commission and the Tennessee Historical Commission to please consider the implications of how hurtful it would be to continue fighting for these monuments".

"When you fight to honor racists, you show black Tennesseans and all of their allies where you stand, and you continue this cycle of hurt. You can’t change history, but you can change this".

In the US, several monuments have been vandalized in the past few weeks as a retaliation against the death of a 46-year-old African-American man named George Floyd allegedly due to police brutality on May 25.

Taylor Swift also slammed President of the United States of America, Donald Trump over his remark on protesters in Minnesota when he tweeted that the protesters should be shot. Not only Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga too lashed out on President Trump for his insensitive tweets.

Stay tuned...
