Box Office: Mohanlal's 'Thudarum' Scores A Big Opening Weekend Worldwide
Kochi, April 28 - Superstar Mohanlal's drama thriller Thudarum has stormed the box office with one of the biggest opening weekends ever for a Malayalam movie. The movie is a major surprise box office winner, though the buzz was decent before release.
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum in its first 3-day opening weekend has scored approximately 28 crores gross collection at the domestic box office, including over 20 crores gross in the home state, Kerala. Overseas, the movie is estimated to gross around 41.50 crores, for approximately 69.50 crores worldwide opening weekend.
Subject to the official overseas figures, this (68 crores gross) marks Mollywood's second biggest opening weekend, after Mohanlal's recently released Empuraan, which scored a massive 174 crores gross in its 4-day opening weekend. Thudarum has beaten Aadujeevitham's 4-day weekend of 64.85 crores to claim the second spot in the all-time ranking.
Thudarum is certain to enter the 100 crores club, and it is likely to achieve this feat before the first week ends or by the second Friday. It will be the second 100 crores Malayalam grosser of the year after Empuraan, and easily one of the biggest hits for the industry.
