Akshay Kumar To Play Legendary Indian Army Officer Ian Cardozo In Anand L Rai's 'Gorkha'!

Mumbai, October 15 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is making some huge unexpected movie announcements off late. Having multiple projects already in the pipeline, Akshay's hands are full of upcoming films, yet he is in no mood to put a break on his busy schedule.

Ahead of the release of his big-budget actioner "Sooryavanshi", Akshay Kumar has finalized one more film, which will go on floors next year. The actor has teamed up with producer Anand L Rai once again for a film based on the life of the legendary officer of the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army, Major General Ian Cardozo.



Akshay will portray Ian Cardozo, who was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (SVSM) and Sena Medal (SM) for his service to the Indian army. Major Ian Cardozo was the first war-disabled officer of the Indian Army to command a battalion and a brigade. Titled "Gorkha", the movie will be directed by the National award-winning director Sanjay PS Chauhan. Sanjay Chauhan has two films to his name - Lahore (2010), Bahattar Hoorain (2019).

Chauhan won the National award for direction for Bahattar Hoorain and for the best debut film for Lahore. It will be his first collaboration with Akshay and Anand L Rai, who will be producing the film in association with Himanshu Sharma. "Gorkha" is written by Neeraj Yadav and Chauhan.

Akshay took to Twitter and shared the two first look posters and wrote, "Sometimes you come across stories so inspiring that you just want to make them. #Gorkha - on the life of legendary war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo is one such film. Honoured to essay the role of an icon and present this special film".

Meanwhile, Akshay is gearing up for the release of "Sooryavanshi" on Diwali this year. He recently concluded the shooting of Cinderella and Rai's Raksha Bandhan. He also has OMG2, Driving Licence remake, one more film to shoot apart from Gorkha. His Atrangi Re, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, Raksha Bandhan are completed and will be released next year.
