KGF: Chapter 2 Becomes Highest-Grossing Kannada Movie Of All Time Worldwide

Bengaluru, April 16 - The Kannada film industry is now on the world map, and all it needed was just one movie, called "KGF: Chapter 2" to get there. The Prashanth Neel-directed hardcore commercial film, filled with non-stop action and style with whistle-worthy punchlines, is now the new box office king of the Southern film industry.

Starring Kannada cinema's beloved superstar Yash, "KGF: Chapter 2" is the sequel to 2018's all-time blockbuster, "KGF". In not-so-surprising development, Chapter 2 of this successful franchise has become the biggest grossing Kannada film by surpassing the original movie in just two days at the worldwide box office.



"KGF: Chapter 1" was the first Pan India Kannada movie and it grossed over 237 crores worldwide, including 227 crores in India, and became the highest-grossing Kannada film of all time. The record stood for nearly 4 years before its successor hit screens and blew it away in just two days to become the new king with 286 crores worldwide gross in just two days.

Chapter 2 of KGF was released on April 14 amid the sky-high expectations and it justified the hype by taking the 3rd biggest opening ever for an Indian movie at the domestic box office. It grossed over 134 crores in India for all languages and approx. 25 crores overseas on the first day. The second day's domestic gross figures are also expected to come above 100 crores, which takes the film past "KGF's" lifetime worldwide cume.

The blockbuster success of the KGF franchise, especially in Hindi where Chapter 2 took the biggest ever opening with 53.95 crores net, has made director Prashanth Neel one of the biggest names in commercial cinema. Actor Yash, who has given his 5 years to this franchise, got a big ticket to Pan-India superstardom with Chapter 2's success.

Produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Prakash Raj, Malavika Avinash, Rao Ramesh, Eswari Rao, and Archana Jois, among others in key roles.
