Vin Diesel On Universal Pictures' Theatrical Release Decision For F9, 'I Take My Hat Off To Them'

Los Angeles, June 29, 2021: Hollywood star Vin Diesel has praised Universal Pictures for going outright theatrical release of long-awaited, F9. The actor, who fronted the latest installment of the "Fast & Furious" franchise, along with John Cena and others, is all praise for the studio to support theaters amid the covid-19 pandemic.
"You can't fault another studio for wanting to stream a movie, but the ones like Universal are bold enough to say, 'Hey, we're going to support the theatrical release. I take my hat off to them", Diesel said to variety.
The Justin Lin directorial, F9 debuted in the USA on June 25 and broke the pandemic era box office record in the domestic market. F9 was projected to score between $50-$70 million in the opening domestic weekend, and by surprising everyone, it opened to the highest projection of $70 million in the first three days from nearly 4200 North American theaters.
Reacting to the box office numbers of F9, Diesel feels happy that people are returning to the theatrical experience. "I think what feels best is just the idea that people are returning to the theatrical experience. It feels good to say, 'Cinema is back!'", the actor said.
