Karan Johar Reveals The Dirty TRUTH About Critics' Reviews Of Films
Mumbai, January 3 - Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar makes a shocking revelation about the movie reviews by critics. During a recent interaction with Film Companion, the Dharma Productions head revealed that to create hype and buzz around films, producers paid money to critics to give positive reviews to attract the audiences.
In a viral video, Karan Johar is revealing that apart from a few critics whom the producers can't pay to manipulate reviews, most of the critics charge money to give 3 to 4 stars to a movie. He revealed that the producers paid money to build a positive perception of their films.
Critics' reviews are one of the first things for a film to set the mood of viewers. However, in the recent past, despite the positive reactions from critics, many films have failed to gather the attention of the moviegoers, resulting in a disastrous outcome at the box office.
The recently released sports biopic "83" got an overwhelming response from the critics from the pre-shows, however, this Ranveer Singh-fronted couldn't strike the chord of masses and now struggling to recover its cost at the box office. It is, however, doing wonderful in tier-1 cities and nearing Rs. 150 crores worldwide.
On the other hand, Allu Arjun's Telugu movie "Pushpa - The Rise", despite the mixed reviews, has done wonders in Hindi dubbed versions, has surpassed most of the outright Hindi films at the box office. The action-thriller is recording Housefull shows on most of the single screens and attracting mass audiences in large numbers. Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi" too fall in the same category as "Pushpa", which helped it to become the biggest Bollywood hit of a covid-19 pandemic.
