Mumbai, July 21, 2021: Set against the backdrop of the partition of India, the 2001 romantic period action film "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha" was a historic blockbuster. The cross-border love story of Tara Singh and Sakeena broke many box office records and became one of the highest-grossing films of 2001 and won awards for music, acting, and direction categories.
Directed by Anil Sharma, the story of the film revolved around Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), who went all the way to bring back his love of life and dear wife Sakeena (Ameesha Patel). It also starred Amrish Puri (Sakeena's father), Lillete Dubey, and Utkarsh Sharma (Tara Singh-Sakeena's son). Due to the film's historic success and constant demand, the makers have decided to work on its sequel.
While the first part was all about a husband-wife relationship, the sequel will focus on the father-son bond. As per reports, Sunny's character will again cross the border but this time to bring his beloved son Charanjeet Singh. The sequel will star Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and grown-up Utkarsh Sharma reprising their roles from part one.
Tara Singh's charactor became so famous that Anil Sharma feels he can make several films with it. Meanwhile, before heading for Gadar 2, Anil Sharma will reportadly finish the family drama Apne 2 with the Deol family. Apne 2 is expected to go on floors in September this year.
