Mumbai, May 28, 2021: On the 138th birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, commonly known as Swatantryaveer Savarkar, producer Sandeep Singh in association with Amit B Wadhwani has announced a biopic. Sandeep Singh has acquired the movie rights to make a biopic on the controversial freedom fighter.

The movie titled, "Swatantra Veer Savarkar", will be helmed by Mahesh Manjrekar, who has also written the script along with Rishi Virmani. Interestingly, Sandeep Ssingh had earlier produced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic with Vivek Oberoi playing Modi. PM Modi has huge admiration for Savarkar.



The director Mahesh Manjrekar said in a statement, "I have always been fascinated by the life and times of Veer Savarkar. I believe he is a man who has not got his right in history. The reality is that he continues to expose such strong emotions that may have influenced many people. As a director, I know it will be a challenge, but I want to play it".

"As much as Veer Savarkar is honored, he is criticized equally. His image is polarised to this day. But it seems that people do not know the full truth about him. No one can deny that he was an important part of our freedom struggle. Our effort is to give a glimpse of his life and journey", said the producer Sandeep Singh.



Amit B Wadhwani added, "I am delighted that we are making a film that throws light on the work of a freedom fighter. There is an important part about which everyone should be told. Unfortunately, his wrong image has been revealed".

While the casting of the film is yet to be revealed, the movie will be shot in London, Andaman and various locales of Maharashtra once the covid-19 restrications are lifted. The movie is co-produced by Abhay Verma.
