Mumbai, December 22 - Gujarati-language coming-of-age drama film, Chhello Show (Last Film Show) has been shortlisted in the 'International Feature Film' category at the Oscars 2023.
The "Last Film Show" was selected as India's official entry for the Academy Awards 2023 over public favorite SS Rajamouli's mega-blockbuster RRR. Directed by Pan Nalin, the movie will now be competing with 14 other films in the international feature film category to grab a place in the top 5 films, which will be announced on January 24.
The 'Naatu Naatu' song from "RRR" has been shortlisted in the original song category, becoming the first-ever Indian song ever to be shortlisted for the Academy Awards. However, the movie received disappointments in other categories.
"RRR" was submitted in 15 general categories, including Best Film. It was predicted to score nominations in the Visual Effects category, but was snubbed and couldn't make it to the top 10 shortlists for the nominations. There are still a few key categories in which "RRR" might get considered for the nominations.
Meanwhile, among the categories, India's The Elephant Whisperers has been shortlisted in the Best Documentary Short Film category while All That Breathes has been shortlisted in the Best Documentary Feature Film category.
The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, while the Oscars ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.
