Mumbai, May 5 - We are witnessing a big change post the covid pandemic. Over the last 2 years, there has been a rapid rise in the preference of the people to watch movies and other content more on the OTT platforms rather than in theatres.

The failures of Bollywood movies like Antim, Tadap, Jersey, Runway 34, Heropanti 2, and Bachchan Paandey are the biggest examples that now audiences are gradually shifting their preferences from the theatres. Only big-scale commercial movies like RRR and KGF Chapter 2 managed to emerge as big successes in recent times.

During the covid peak period, many movies and web series from various parts of the world got the attention of the audiences through OTT.

This itself is the main reason why Audiences are becoming choosy nowadays. Movies like Tadap and Runway 34 are those types of movies suited to be released on the OTT, which is the main reason for their pathetic performance at the box office.

There are a few exceptions to this which we can see through the huge success of The Kashmir Files movie. This is because of the emotional depiction of the reality of Kashmiri People the audiences managed to establish a deep connection with it. Gangubai Kathiawadi movie by Sanjay Leela Bhansali managed to do good business.

83 is an example of a movie that was made on a very heavy budget but failed at the box office due to the lack of commercial elements. By seeing this trend we can say that nowadays the audiences are only willing to spend their money on movies that provide them wholesome entertainment like KGF Chapter 2 and RRR. They leave the rest of the movies to watch in OTT rather than in theatres. So the producers need to ensure that movies don't compromise on the entertainment factor to ensure it doesn't become a debacle.

Stay tuned...
