In a post on X, Britt Baker, who is Cole's real-life girlfriend, provided an update on his ankle injury. She mentioned that Cole broke his ankle in three places due to a freak accident. Despite the setback, she expressed confidence that he will return stronger than before.

At the AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam event, an injury occurred. During the September 27 episode of AEW Dynamite, Cole disclosed that he had suffered a fracture in his ankle at three distinct locations and had sustained injuries to various ligaments, necessitating surgical intervention.

Cole indicated his desire to vacate the tag titles. However, MJF countered by announcing his intention to defend the title in a handicap match at the forthcoming event.
