Awards Editor For Rotten Tomatoes, Jacqueline Coley Bids For Suriya's 'Jai Bhim' To Get Oscar Nomination For Best Picture

Mumbai, February 8 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the nominees for the 94th Academy Awards on Tuesday. The announcement will be live-streamed globally at 5:18 a.m. Pacific time (6:48 pm in India). After three years, the ceremony will have a host as Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross and actor-comedian Leslie Jordan will co-host the presentation.
This year's Oscar could be a historic moment for Indian cinema as Suriya's highly critically hailed "Jai Bhim" is among the films that were shortlisted for Best Picture. Awards Editor for Rotten Tomatoes, Jacqueline Coley is among the people who believe that "Jai Bhim" could get a nod for Best Picture nominations.
Not only Coley, The Hollywood Reporter's awards columnist, Scott Feinberg to believe the same and said that the movie is definitely under consideration for Best Picture nomination.
"Jai Bhim", directed by T. J. Gnanavel, is based on a true incident in 1995, which involves a case fought by Justice K. Chandru, played by Suriya in the movie. It revolves around the lives of Sengeni and Rajakannu, a couple from the Irular tribe. Rajakannu was arrested by the police and was later missing from the police station. Sengeni seeks the help of an advocate Chandru to seek justice for her husband. Chandru files a habeas corpus case and he refers to the Rajan case to continue further to find the truth.
Released on Amazon Prime Video on 2 November 2021, "Jai Bhim" received critical acclaim. It is produced by Jyothika and Suriya under 2D Entertainment and also stars Lijomol Jose, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, among others in key roles. "Jai Bhim" is the highest-rated Indian movie on IMDb with a 9.3 rating.
