25 Year Of Coolie No. 1: Vashu Bhagnani recalls the fond memories of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor starrer

One of the best entertainers of the Hindi cinema, Coolie No. 1 starring the blockbuster duo of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor has completed 25 years on June 30. The remake of the 1993 Tamil film Chinna Mapillai, Coolie No. 1 has become a classic in Hindi film history and is now considered a cult film.

It is a comedy film directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani who made his debut with the film as a producer. Now, on the film's 25th anniversary, Vashu Bhagnani took to Twitter and recalls the fond memories that were created while making the film. He shared a video playing 'Main To Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha' song in the background and wrote,

Coolie No. 1 was written by Rumi Jaffery and Kader Khan with music given by Anand-Milind. The film also starred Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Harish Kumar, Kanchan, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in the important roles.



The music of the film became popular when it released. Apart from the hit song 'Husn Hain Suhana', the song that did the trick was 'Main To Raste Se Ja Raha Tha'. Such was the magic of Coolie No. 1 music album that strengthened Anand-Milind and Govinda/David Dhawan's track record for the future collaborations.

It was not only the music that was successful but the movie also created magic at the box office and emerged as one of the highest-grossing movies of the year 1995 with the worldwide collection of ₹ 21.15 crores.

Govinda was praised critically as well as by the audience for his role in the movie to which he received the Star Screen Special Jury Award as 'performer of the decade'. Coolie No. 1 was also one of the first movies that gave Karishma Kapoor her due success and after the movie, she emerged as one of the most successful actresses.

Now, after the 25 years of the smash hit, the movie is being remade by the director David Dhawan and producer Vashu Bhagnani teamed up with the new cast Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan. As of now, the film is scheduled for release on 14 August 2020 but it could be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
