Former Indian batsman and legend of the game, Sachin Tendulkar expressed his happiness over his son Arjun Tendulkar's selection in India's U-19 squad for Sri Lanka tour.
'We are happy on Arjun being selected in India U-19 team. It is an important milestone in his cricketing life. Anjali (Tendulkar) and I will always support Arjun in his choices and pray for his success,' Tendulkar said.
However, Arjun Tendulkar named only in the 4-day match squad which will lead by Delhi's Anuj Rawat. Arjun standing at 6f 1inch is a left-arm fast bowler who can be handy with the bat also in lower down the order.
The 18-year old came in the discussion after his performance in Cooch Bihar trophy where he grabbed 18 wickets in 9 matches with one five-wicket haul for Mumbai U-19.
Arjun's selection might not happen as Himachal Pradesh's Ayush Jamwal (50 wickets) was also in the race. But as per new rules, he didn't select because he will be over 19 by the end of this year.
"There is a clear direction from BCCI and coach Rahul Dravid that those who will surpass 19 by this year should not be selected even if they have performed. Let them play Ranji Trophy according to Rahul. So a lot of boys ahead of Arjun are disqualified," a senior BCCI official said.
With Arjun Tendulkar's selection, The Indian team list will once again have the famous Tendulkar surname after legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
