Mandhana to play for the Western storm in Super League 2018

Smriti Mandhana will be the first Indian to play in Women's cricket Super League in England as she signing up with the defending champion Western Storm for the upcoming season.

Mandhana has been a consistent performer for India in limited overs cricket since 2017 World Cup. She has scored 402 runs in 12 T20I innings with four half-centuries and 531 runs scored in 9 ODI innings with five half-centuries and a career-best 135 against South Africa in 2018.



Mandhana was delighted after signing up with the defending champion.

"I am very excited to be playing for the Kia Super League champions. To be the first Indian player to appear in the tournament is a real honour and I hope that I can help Western Storm to more success,".

Mandhana is the only second overseas player to signing up with the Western Storm as New Zealand's wicketkeeper batter, Rachel Priest is the first and will play her third stint with the club.



"We are really excited that Smriti will be joining us. She is one of the brightest young talents in the game at the moment. Although she is still young, she has a great deal of experience of the game at the highest level and we believe that she will prove to be an excellent signing," Storm head coach Trevor Griffin said.

This is not the first instance when Smriti Mandhana is will be playing franchise cricket. She has been the part of Brisbane Heat in Big Bash League 2016-17 and most recently she captained IPL Trailblazers in a one-off T20 exhibition match on 22nd May ahead of IPL qualifier 1 in Mumbai.
