Malayalam superstar, Mohanlal recently unleashed the teaser of his highly anticipated Mollywood drama-thriller, Drishyam 2, and to surprising everyone, the actor announced that the movie will directly release on Amazon Prime Video in the coming days. And now, as expected, the Theatre Owners Association of Kerala has criticized Mohanlal for his decision of skipping the theatrical release of the movie.
According to FilmiBeat, the spokesperson of the Theatre Owners Association, Liberty Basheer slammed the superstar for his decision to go for an OTT release, while addressing the media. He said that the theater owners were hopeful that the release of Drishyam 2 will bring back the audiences to the theatres. He also stated that Mohanlal's decision has hit hard the theatres owners.
While giving the example of Thalapathy Vijay, who patiently waited for the theatres to re-open, to release his biggest film Master, the film chamber members slammed Mohanlal for not thinking about the current situation and called it a selfish act.

However, Jeethu Joseph the director of Drishyam 2 defended Mohanlal and producer Antony Perumbavoor in a recent interview given to a leading Malayalam media. According to the filmmaker, the team acted according to the need of the hour. He pointed out that the future of the film will be totally unpredictable if they had waited for the theatres to re-open.
Meanwhile, according to the reports, Vijay's decision to release Master in theaters has not only found him the respect of theater owners in Tamil Nadu but even the Chief Minister of the state. Post a meeting with Edapaddi K Palaniswamy, which was said to be about increasing theater occupancy from 50% to more, the CM told the media,
"He met me to talk about the whole film industry. Vijay told me that the producers are struggling hard by investing crores of money and requested me to help them. The meet is not just regarding Master".
