Akshay Kumar Steps Back From Endorsing Vimal Elaichi After Backlash

Mumbai, April 21 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has announced on social media that he is no longer associated with Vimal Elaichi Pan Masala and is stepping back as the brand ambassador of the product. The decision has come in the light of facing backlash from his fans who consider him their idol.

Akshay, who was the latest Bollywood star after Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan to join Vimal promos for their cardamom products. It is a brand that also sells tobacco products. His decision was not well received by fans. However, Akshay clarifies in his statement that what he endorse was not tobacco.



He began his statement by saying "sorry" to his fans. "I would like to apologise to you, all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. With all humility, I step back", he wrote.

The superstar further said that he has decided to contribute the entire fee he received to endorse the brand to a worthy cause. "The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return, I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes".

In one of his past interviews, Akshay had said that he would never endorse a tobacco product at any cost. Akshay fans were unhappy, when he joined Vimal universe, that he was promoting a harmful product even though it was not a tobacco product.
