WWE WrestleMania 40: Tag Title Unification Looks Set to Be Undone

WrestleMania 40 is shaping up to feature a shakeup in the tag team division. Comments by Michael Cole on WWE Raw and reports from Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggest the planned finish to the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship six-way ladder match could see the titles split back up between Raw and SmackDown.

Cole's mention that both sets of titles need to be retrieved for the match to end fueled speculation of a brand split. Meltzer's report adds weight to this theory, indicating WWE is actively considering crowning two champions at WrestleMania.



This would mark the end of a nearly two-year reign with the unified titles, which began with The Usos defeating RK-Bro on SmackDown in May 2022. While merged into one championship, the Raw and SmackDown titles have maintained separate lineages.

The six teams vying for the titles at WrestleMania are current champions Finn Balor & Damian Priest, alongside DIY, New Catch Republic, A-Town Down Under, New Day, and Awesome Truth.
