Swift's The Eras Tour concert film opened to a mighty $95 million - $97 million at the domestic (North America) opening weekend box office, as per Variety. The film was announced just 6 weeks ago by distributor AMC Theatres and the wasn't even promoted on-ground, relying on Taylor Swift's massive social media fan following. It was originally supposed to be released on October 13, Friday, but Swift surprised fans by bringing it a day early with shows beginning at 6 PM.
With the film's opening weekend gross collection itself, "The Eras Tour" becomes the highest-grossing concert film in domestic (NA) box office history, surpassing the entire $73 million run of "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" in 2011.
"The Eras Tour" movie will only play in theatres on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as Team Swift wants the film to be experienced with a packed crowd rather than half-empty auditoriums on other days. The movie is riding high with critics' reviews with a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes while the audience gave it an A+ CinemaScore.
