Report: AEW Faces Backstage Frustration As Key Media Rights Deal Looms
As All Elite Wrestling (AEW) gears up for crucial media rights negotiations later this year, reports indicate growing discontent among its talent pool.
According to wrestling journalist Bryan Alvarez, frustrations have been simmering for months regarding communication, booking decisions, and a perceived lack of enforcement from company president Tony Khan.
Alvarez, speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, revealed that many wrestlers "are showing up the day of the show" unsure of their involvement, leading to last-minute scrambling and adjustments. He further claimed that complaints about creative direction are often met with changes, and wrestlers who resist specific bookings are not held accountable.
This "whirlwind" approach to show planning, coupled with frequent injuries, has reportedly left many within the company feeling frustrated. The days of long-term booking, Alvarez suggests, appear to be over, replaced by a more fluid and potentially chaotic process.
While the full extent of these reported issues remains unclear, they come at a critical juncture for AEW. The company is set to renegotiate its media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery by the end of 2024, a deal that has been instrumental in their initial success.
