Mercedes Moné, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, has been generating a lot of buzz about a potential debut in AEW. For the majority of her career, Banks was a prominent figure in WWE from 2012 to 2022. However, due to creative issues in 2022, she walked out of WWE and did not return.
Subsequently, she made her presence felt in NJPW/Stardom at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January 2023, adopting the ring name Mercedes Moné. Unfortunately, Moné encountered an ankle injury during a match against Nightingale.
Speculation about her return has been rife, initially suggesting a comeback to WWE. However, recent reports have diverged, indicating that Tony Khan has already secured her services.
Now, per the latest report from Fightful Select, Mercedes Mone is headed to AEW, and has been on their payroll for a while.
While there was debate about an earlier announcement or debut, the decision was made to save the reveal for the Boston event. Interestingly, plans for both the February 7th and March 13th shows were finalized weeks before, adding intrigue to the timing.
Addressing speculation of an earlier New York debut, sources clarified that Moné wasn't fully prepared due to a 2023 injury. This information, corroborated by NJPW sources, confirms she hadn't yet received medical clearance or resumed training despite earlier reports. Notably, NJPW intends to continue exploring potential collaborations with Moné.
