Five Major Box Office Records Broken By Malayalam Blockbuster '2018'

Kochi, May 29 - The Tovino Thomas-led Malayalam blockbuster 2018 is having a record-breaking run at the domestic as well as overseas box office. The film has broken almost all the major records for a Malayalam movie in just 4 weeks of the run.

Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, "2018" was released on May 5, and in just 24 days, it has grossed over 160 crores at the worldwide box office. It also stars Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Lal, and Narain with an ensemble supporting cast.

Highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all-time at the worldwide box office

2018 is the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time. It surpassed the lifetime collection of Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan which scored around 138 crores in 2016. Mohanlal's Lucifer is the 3rd in the list with approx. 128 crores gross.



Highest-grossing Mayalalam movie of all-time at the overseas box office

The all-time blockbuster movie is also the highest-grossing Malayalam title ever at the overseas box office. It currently has scored around 68 crores gross in 24 days, ahead of previous record-holder Lucifer which earned approx. 50.50 crores internationally.

Highest-grossing film ever at the Kerala box office



On its 24th day, 2018 becomes the highest-grossing film ever in any language at the Kerala box office. It surpassed Pulimurugan's 78.50 crores yesterday (24th day) to become the new box office king in the state with approx. 80 crores gross.

Fastest Malayalam movie to reach 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office

2018 took just 11 days to breach the 100 crores gross mark globally, beating Lucifer's record of 12 days. It is only the 3rd Mollywood title to achieve the 100 crores milestone after Pulimurugan and Lucifer.

Only Malayalam movie to cross 150 crores worldwide

It is also the first and only Malayalam film to have crossed the 150 crores mark at the global box office which it breached on its 22nd day.

Highest-grossing Malayalam movie domestically

2018 has become the biggest Malayalam grosser in India, beating Mohanlal's Pulimurugan (100.05 crores). It has so far grossed 101.30 crores in 24 days.
