Blockbuster Malayalam Movie '2018' Sets Eyes On Historic 100 Crores Worldwide Box Office

Kochi, May 9 - The state of Kerala is in the news for two films that were released this past weekend in the form of The Kerala Story and 2018 - Everyone is a Hero. While the former hasn't been allowed to leave much impact, the letter is simply ruling the box office in the state.

The Kerala box office was in dire need of a big hit amid a number of disasters and just when things were looking all doom and gloom, the "2018" movie came and blessed the state box office with its historic trend.



Based on the true events in the 2018 Kerala floods, the movie is recording extraordinary collections in the state as well as the rest of India. After taking a fantastic start, "2018" jumped big on Saturday and Sunday to clock an excellent weekend, grossing 10.55 crores domestically.

During the weekdays, the "2018" movie remains solid with a collection coming in the range of 4 crores each day. The total domestic collection in the first full week is 29.35 crores gross which is a fantastic result for a Malayalam title.

Domestic aside, the "2018" movie had a sensational opening weekend overseas as well approx. 15.05 crores gross, before very good working days to take the first-week overseas collection to around 28 crores. At the UAE box office, "2018" was the biggest movie this past weekend with 9.3 crores, beating Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3".



The worldwide collection of the film is around 57.50 crores in 7 days and this extraordinary trend has led to discussions if the movie could breach the 100 crores mark worldwide. The 100 crores gross collection hasn't been an easy mark for Malayalam movies as there are only two films - "Pulimurugan" (2016) and "Lucifer" (2019) to reach this rare milestone in the past.

The early trend indicates that "2018" is well on the right track and could be the third Malayalam movie ever to breach the 100 crores gross worldwide. The second weekend of "2018" will give a clear idea and if it manages to top the opening weekend by a good margin, then it is certain that the movie will breach the 100 crores milestone.
