Bryan Danielson Leads Disciplinary Committee In Historic Decision To Terminate CM Punk From AEW
Stamford, November 28 - According to Fightful, the decision to terminate CM Punk from AEW was made by a small disciplinary committee led by Bryan Danielson, a longtime friend of Punk and a former in-ring adversary. The three-person committee also included AEW general counsel Chris Peck and an external attorney, hastily convened following the events at August's All In. AEW VP Megha Parekh was not part of the committee, having already stepped down from most of her responsibilities to focus on the Khan's NFL team.
In addressing the AEW roster about Punk's termination, Danielson, as reported, acknowledged the difficulty of the decision. Despite highlighting the positive contributions Punk brought and their enduring friendship, Danielson emphasized that the decision had to be made.
Punk was fired for cause in early September after a review of the incident at All In, where he was involved in a confrontation with Jack Perry. The incident also reportedly involved Punk lunging at AEW head Tony Khan backstage.
Fightful's report mentioned that Danielson continues to be part of the committee, and he is responsible for imposing fines when necessary.
In a surprising turn of events, Punk recently returned to WWE at Survivor Series in Chicago, marking his comeback to the company after nearly a decade away.
