Los Angeles, March 26 - Make a way for Baba Yaga, aka John Wick who has just crushed the projection with a spectacular opening at the box office.
The Keanu Reeves-fronted action thriller
John Wick: Chapter 4 smashed the opening weekend with $137.5 million at the worldwide box office, the biggest in the franchise. The film blasted off the projections which were indicating the opening of $115 million.
John Wick 4 opened at 3855 theaters domestically (North America) and grossed a gigantic $73.5 million in the 3-day opening weekend, which is 29% more than "John Wick 3" (2019). It is also the biggest opening for an R-Rated film in the post-covid era.
Overseas, John Wick 4 also scored above projections, grossing a super solid $64 million over a 5-day weekend. As per Variety, it debuted at No. 1 in each of the 71 international markets where it opened, including India where it grossed an estimated $3.50 million over the 3-day weekend. Allied to $73.5 million in North America, the opening of $137.5 million is the biggest in the John Wick franchise and the biggest for Keanu Reeves since "The Matrix Reloaded".
Top international markets of the film are as follows - 1. the UK ($6.7M), 2. Germany ($5.5M), 3. Australia ($4.7M), 4. Mexico ($4.2M), 5. India ($3.5M), 6. Brazil ($2.9M), 7. France ($2.7M), 8. Taiwan ($2.4M), and 9. The Philippines ($2M).
