Mumbai, November 28 - Ajay Devgn-fronted suspense thriller
Drishyam 2 has breathed a new life into the ailing Bollywood film industry and emerged as a huge blockbuster.
The Abhishek Pathak-directed movie has raced past the 200 crores gross at the worldwide box office in just 10 days, becoming only the 5th Bollywood movie of 2022 and 6th after the covid-19 pandemic to achieve the feat. The sequel is on track to finish over 300 crores in its lifetime run.
Produced by Panorama Studios, Viacom18, and T-Series, "Drishyam 2" is a remake of Mohanlal's Malayalam blockbuster of the same name and a sequel to Ajay's 2015 movie, which itself was a huge hit. The movie opened to super positive reviews from critics and audiences alike which led to the foundation of a strong first week of over 104 crores net.
"Drishyam 2" remained equally strong in its second weekend despite the arrival of "Bhediya". In 10 days, the movie has managed to gross around 170 crores at the domestic box office while overseas, it has collected approx. 33 crores, helping the total worldwide to reach around 203 crores.
Ajay Devgn plays the titular role of Vijay Salgaunkar, who along with his family copes with the reopening of a murder case that refuses to stop haunting them. It also stars Tabu, Shriya Saran, Akshaye Khanna, and Ishita Dutta, among others in key roles.
